Finally!!

After weeks (no,months) of hot, oppressive summertime heat, we all can finally breathe a huge sigh of relief.  Last night, we had a cold front blow on through here and this morning, we woke up to delightfully cooler (and drier) weather.  The sky is a bright, pristine blue, and the air is crisp and cool; it finally feels like fall outside!!

We live in Florida, near Miami Beach.  While it is mild all year long, we have had enough of the hot weather.  We can finally give the air conditioners a break and open up the windows and let some of the fresh, cool air indoors.

We had some nasty storms last night, bringing high winds (some near hurricane force), extremely torrential rainfall (had some flash flooding 'round here), dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, and even the threat of tornadoes (though none really materialized here in our immediate area, thank goodness!).

The storms hit about seven o'clock, and it stormed for several hours afterwards, before the front finally came through, bringing blessed cooler relief and brisk northerly winds.  It felt wonderful on our parched skin!! 

I know the cooler weather won't last, but at least the hurrricne season is starting to wane.  We had a few close encounters, but not too bad, thank goodness.  It was nothing like 1992, when Hurricane Andrew buffeted our area, bringing death, destruction, and weeks without water or power.  It was a really bad time; I will never forget it as long as I shall live!

Today we can take advantage of the cooler weather and actually get outside without sweating halfwey to death or feeling like you're about to melt!  We can put on light sweatshirts or sweaters or long pants and actually do things.  As an example, I'm going to take the kids to the park and then go out for a bite of lunch; then we will return home, just in time for husband to get off of work and prepare dinner.  It is going to be a great day!
