It doesn't seem real. It still seems like a dream.
We're only mere minutes away from meeting our brand new daughter, Danielle Hope, whom we are adopting from Idaho. We originally wanted to adopt another daughter from China, but that proved to be way too expensive; we are still paying off the last one from when we adopted Callie three years ago.
Callie is now six; she has grown into a beautiful young lady with silken, blue-black hair that falls past her waist, wide, knowing almond shaped eyes, and a round moon face. She is altogether precious and we can't imagine our world without her. She has been nothing but a blessing in our lives!
Now Callie is going to get a sister, Danielle Hope, who is two ... and has special needs. Danielle was born without a right hand; other than that, she is perfectly healthy, according to our caseworker. Danielle has red, curly hair, big, blue eyes, and is a little butterball; she is chubby. She is also beautiful; we have her picture on hand, so we can find her from when the passengers disembark from the plane.
From one child, we are going for two. And I am so scared, yet excited, right now! What if Danielle doesn't like us? What if she turns out to be a little brat? What if she has more disabilities than what the adoption agency is letting on?? If Danielle were severely disabled, like my nephew, Cayden, then I don't know what I would do! I am not equipped to handle a child who is profoundly disabled, like little Cayden is! (Cayden has cerebral palsy and other issues. He is two, Danielle's age.)
All sorts of conflicting feelings are racing through my mind right now as I watch the plane edging this way towards the terminal. Soon after that, the first of the passengers will start getting off; and then we will meet our brand new child!
Thank God that Dwight is right here; he's busy trying to keep me calm (and Callie quiet; she is singing and dancing up a storm!). I am scared I will throw up; that's how nervous I am!
