A not-so-typical family shares their story.

We are the Grenada family.  Spelled like the country of Grenada, but pronounced like Gruh-NAY-dah.  We live in Edmond, Oklahoma.

I am Denise, the mamma.  I am married to my wife, Gigi; we have three beautiful children, all, of whom, we adopted.  Gus (Augustus) was adopted from Russia; we've had him the longest: five years.  He's now eight and is as smart as a whip.

In addition to Gus, there's our middle child, our only daughter, Haylie Denise; she was adopted two years ago from China.  She's five.  She also has special needs; she was born with cerebral palsy.  Because of it, she's in a wheelchair, but can walk for short trips on a pair of crutches.

Then there's the baby: Hewitt Charles, who is a year.  We adopted him six months ago from Haiti.  He is as cute as a bug.

We love our children very much; they love us in return, tenfold.  We cannot imagine not having any of them in our lives.  I don't know what we did when we did not have them; we should have adopted sooner, according to Gigi.  LOL

Gigi was my college roommate.  We "met cute", and the rest, as they say, is history.  We fell in love and got married and have a very close, loving relationship.  Now, some people do frown on our union, as we are definitely lesbian, but I frankly don't see any problem with it.  As long as we love each other and care for each other, then why should it even matter??

I have been lesbian as long as I can remember.  I believe I was born that way.  As for Gigi, she did have a boyfriend at one time, but then he sodomized her and she swore off men; she's now all for women's rights (and more importantly rights for the gay/lesbian/transgender community).  I think I am better for having Gigi in my life.

People think that we are weird for taking in children, or that the children are going to suffer "permanent damage" because they don't have a father figure in their lives.  I say that is total bulls***.  As long as a kid has a family, then that's all that is important.  People need to stop judging and start accepting us.  We're part of this world too; we're not going anywhere!

Well, I hate to run, but Gigi made supper; tonight it's taco surprise (tacos made with leftovers from the 'fridge; it's Gigi's specialty!), garden salad, and fried potatoes.  One of my favorite meals of all time (and the kids' too!).  Until later, take care and talk to you soon; this is Denise Holmes-Grenada signing off!

~Love, your new friend, Denise.  :)

It's not my business to agree or disagree. That's God's business.
Children need love and care and it's good that folks are there to help them along the way. There are husband and wife male & female couples that fight all the time. What is worse? I know where I would want to live if I were a kid. Amen

Peace, love and abundant blessings,
