My name is Elvice Jean Porter.  I live in Columbia, South Carolina, with my family: my Mama and Daddy, my baby brother Carter  Dale (he's 2), and two older sisters (Wynette Doreen and Cinnamon Dyann, who are 19 and 15; I'm 11).

I am in the fifth grade at Columbia Elementary.  I love school; in fact, I make good grades.  My Mama and Daddy are very proud of me.  I am very smart for my age (sometimes too smart, Mama says LOL).

My best friend is Pressley Mae Torkington.  She's in my class at school; we've been the best of friends since she moved here two years ago from Louisiana.  I think it's funny that we are friends because if you put our first names together, they spell Elvis Presley, the late rock singer (though our first names are spelled different).  Mama pointed that out one day and I found it hilarious.  (Mama would; she's always been a fan of Elvis Presley; she loves his music, and so do I!)

I like to do many things.  I like to go to church (we go to a Baptist church) every Sunday, sing, dance, play with Pressley and my other friends Wilmadene Cox and Tori Plaisance, talk on the phone, write stories or poems, help out at the soup kitchen one Saturday a month with the family, go to the library and read, draw, paint, and ride my horse, Bella of Araby.  She's a Palomino; she's really beautiful.  I've had her for the past two years; she was a birthday present from my folks (best present I ever got!).

When I grow up, I want to be a mommy or a teacher.  Or maybe a singer or actress or writer.  I have many dreams.

Pressley wants to be a model or an actress.  She's tall and whip-thin, not 'cause she diets or anything like that; it's the way God made her.  I think she would be perfect. 

Compared to me, Pressley is real quiet, almost shy.  As for me, I'm a regular loudmouth; I have to put my two cents' worth in everything!
