Maybe we should have taken the bus instead of walk home from school. Maybe then this wouldn't have happened.
Now because of a car going too fast, my best friend, Shayla, is fighting for her life in the hospital. I'm scared for her and her family. What if she would happen to die ... and so close to Christmas?? Christmas is supposed to be all about joy and hope, not despair and sadness!
I'm here at the hospital with my parents as well as Shayla's family. We are currently waiting for the doctor to talk to us about her. I'm almost too scared to find out just how bad she is.
We were walking home from school: it was a pretty day, not too warm, not too cold; it felt just right, so we decided to walk home from school. We live about ten minutes away. Well, anyway, we were walking home, laughing and talking about Christmas plans, when this car, a maroon colored older model Oldsmobile, came roaring down the street like it was going to a fire. I barely made it across, but I saw Shayla get slammed into by the car.
I screamed "SHAYLA!!" as I saw her body fly several feet, then saw it come to a dead rest. Shayla was not making any attempt to move or get up. I knew immediately that she had been hurt. How badly, I had no clue.
I started weeping as I rushed to Shayla's side; I looked at her face. Her eyes were closed and blood was streaming from a gash on her forehead as well as from her mouth. She looked dead. It truly scared me.
A lady who had seen the accident moved me out of the way and grabbed her cell phone while she called for an ambulance. Meanwhile, I continued to cry.
All of a sudden Christmas was the last thing on my mind, as my thoughts centered on Shayla Hopkins, my very best friend since first grade. I was so scared that she was going to die or was already dying (or dead).
