Amazingly, Shayla has made it through Christmas; however, that doesn't mean she is out of the woods just yet, according to the doctors and nurses tending to her.
A small relief, perhaps, but not really, because she could still die.
As the result of the accident, Shayla has suffered numerous internal injuries, not to mention, broken bones. She is in a coma; there are no guarantees as to whether she will even wake up again.
I have been spending Christmas vacation with her family here at the hospital. I have been trying to be supportive; after all, Shayla is my best friend. She has always been there for me; now it's my turn to be there for her!
Why shouldn't I? I mean, Shayla HAS been my best friend since first grade. Now we're both in high school; that's an awful long time to be friends, especially best friends!
Compared to how she looked when she got injured by that speeding car, Shayla looks much better. She's been cleaned up and looks like she's sleeping peacefully, but I know she's not. I wonder if she even knows what's happened to her or knows who she is; but that won't be determined until she wakes up from the coma.
We did manage to have Christmas, but it was hard because I couldn't help but think about Shayla and her family. They must be going through absolute hell. All I have been doing since this happened nearly two weeks ago is pray .... or cry.
