Dear Journal~
Howdy from Music City, Nashville, Tennessee! I pray that this finds each and every one of y'all are in good health or are enjoying what God has entrusted to you!
The weather here has finally settled and warmed up. The ice is melting; we had a bad ice storm last week that nearly paralyzed our fair city. I had to go to work; it was a bear trying to get out of my driveway!! I can't tell you how many times I ended up veering off into the yard! Now my front yard has tire tracks all through it; it really looks terrible!
I'm just thankful I didn't wreck the van, myself, or anybody else! God had His hand on me that time! WOW!! It very easily could have been so much worse!
So far the new year has been relatively calm (and in our family, calm is a rare event! LOL). I am praying this continues: other than a few rounds of the cold or flu, nobody has ended up in the hospital or had to go to the ER for treatment. Hopefully this year will be uneventful for our family, especially when it comes to health crises or unexpected sickness/hospitalizations!
The newest child in our family (Sebastian Alex) has finally settled in; he's gotten used to us and can now come to us without shying away. He can come for cuddles, kisses, or hugs, and he's learned to give them right back to us. Sebastian is truly a very sweet little boy who just happened to have a very rough start in life.
The kids have all since gone back to their respective homes and all is quiet again (for the most part). I also became a grandmother again: my son Richard and his wife, Stella, gave me a new grandson named Stetson; he is the cutest little thing! He was born on New Year's Day, so he's nearly three weeks old (he'll be three weeks old in two days). When I saw his picture that my son posted on his Facebook page, I cried!!
They live in Utah.
I am busy with my adoption network, helping families get the process started, answering any questions about special needs adoption they may have, and linking them to important news events or agencies specializing in adopting kids with special needs, both internationally as well as domestically (here at home in America). I've also started working with some foster care agencies in case they can't afford to adopt; I know from personal experience just how expensive adoption can be, especially if you adopt from overseas. Yet it is something I haven't regretted in all the world; I love all of my children way too much!
I am still writing to the families, letting them know of the latest news in our lives; they, in turn, inform me as to what is going on in theirs. Most of them are doing well, but some are still struggling or are in limbo, like the Kushkins who live in Apple Valley, Wisconsin. They had been trying to adopt a child (a little boy) from Russia, but now they're in limbo; there's no guarantees whether they will even get Borishev because of the new adoption law that currently bans Americans from adopting Russian orphans.
It's truly a mess and a legalistic nightmare; my heart breaks for these families. I am praying that the law is changed or dropped altogether; so many needy children there are in desperate need of a home or a family to call their own!
