A story about a man who got injured in a car accident.
We had a pretty significant case come into our E.R. this morning. A young man involved in a car accident. Pretty badly injured, but hopefully luck (and prayer) will be on his side and he will end up making it.
The man was in his twenties. Hispanic. Quite good looking: reminded me of a Latino version of Superman. The same muscular build, powerful arms and legs: you could tell he was in good physical shape. He suffered two broken legs and a punctured lung, a lacerated liver, and a concussion. Right now he is unconscious, but hopefully he will wake up and he will have all his faculties about him.
What had happened was this: he was driving to work when a blind drunk plowed into his car; the man in the other vehicle was going the wrong way at a rather high rate of speed. The accident, in turn, snarled I-65 traffic for hours; they are still clearing it up as I speak. Hopefully by rush hour the Interstate will be back to speed.
The only saving grace was is: it (the accident) didn't happen during rush hour. It would have probably been much worse; there's no telling how many more people could have been hurt (or God forbid, killed).
Anyway, the man's name was Chuy Rodriguez. His mate, Alma, came to the hospital at the news of her boyfriend's demise. She was obviously very upset at the news; we frankly didn't blame her. He had youth and pristine physical health going for him. In the ICU, it was reported that his vital signs were fairly stable, which was amazing, considering the injuries he had suffered.
We still don't know how he will do, but some of our nurses and doctors who are Christians have been lifting Chuy Rodriguez in prayer, which I think is a very noble thing to do. Couldn't hurt to have help from above, especially in a case where someone is badly injured.
