I never thought this would happen in a million years.
The worst possible thing that can happen to a parent happened to me only a few hours ago, and as a result, I am very scared.
My son tried to hang himself. I was the one who found him hanging in his bedroom. He was not moving and his face was dark blue. I screamed; I honestly thought he was dead.
There was no telling how long he had been like that.
I had Wilson (my husband) call for an ambulance while I had our older son cut him down and have me help him to the floor. I listened to see if he was breathing: nothing. He was NOT breathing!!
I immediately started breathing into his mouth, while at the same time, pinching his nostrils closed. I had Chase push on his chest; we continued to do that until the paramedics arrived shortly thereafter; then they took over.
After the paramedics took over, I guided Chase and myself out of the room. We said a quick prayer to Heaven, asking God to spare our younger son's life.
I felt horrible that it had come to this. See, Chad has special needs (dyslexia, ADHD, Asberger's, learning disabilities) and he has often been teased by the other kids at school. He has very few friends and many days he comes home near tears. School has been very hard for him. As a result of all this teasing, Chad has a very poor self image about himself and is oftentimes very depressed.
We just didn't know how depressed until this happened earlier today.
Now we sit at the hospital, waiting word from the doctor to come talk to us about Chad's chances. Right now, though, things don't look very good. All we can do is hope, wait .... and pray.
I wonder if there was anything we could have done to help Chad through the rough spots. Lord knows, we tried our best, but apparently it wasn't good enough, or Chad wouldn't be in the predicament he is currently in.
