An English bulldog brings joy to a family during good times and in bad. This is their story.
We ahve a brindle-and-whilte English bulldog who goes by the name of "Stubbs". Turns out that the name suits him perfectly.
We ahve had Stubbs now for the past five years; while he is no longer considered a puppy, our "English gentleman" thinks otherwise. He loves to romp and play, go exploring, hang out with his human (and non-human) friends, and spend his weekends lazing about. He is quite a character, very friendly (if very drooly: he has a slobbering problem), and doesn't know a stranger.
We know that Stubbs won't be with us forever, but we try not to think about that. We want to enjoy him just as he is currently, but like a nagging, pesty fly, the thoughts are there, somewhere in the deep, dark recesses of our minds.
I don't konw what we would do without our "canine son". Stubbs has managed to get us through some very hard times: the deaths of my parents (as well as one of our children and also two of my brothers), the downsizing of my job, mounting bills, and my wife's illness from breast cancer (thankfully she survived; she's now been cancer-free for three years now and continues to do quite well). He's been a godsend.
I just hope that when Stubbs gets sick (God forbid), we can be there for him as much as he's been there for us. It's only fair and it's the right thing to do.
Puffy strays and something happens to make him decide he will never run away again. Judged "Outstanding" at the 2013 Writers Digest SPB Awards. Named among the best in family-friendly media, products and services 2019 by the Mom’s Choice Awards®.
