A story about two sisters and the love they have for each other.
My sister, Willa Grace, is absolutely amazing.
She is only 15 years of age, but she has faced life's difficulties with a sense of grace and courage that is nothing short of incredible.
Willa was born with spina bifida (mylomeningocele) that has resulted in numerous hospital stays and operations, not to mention, paralyzed lower limbs. She took her first steps at the age of four. While she mainly uses her wheelchair to get around, for shorter trips she uses crutches and wears braces on her legs. She gets around quite well.
Willa also has a mouth on her that belies her size. She refuses to let anything (or anybody) stand in her way.
Willa has taught the family to be compassionate towards those who have special needs. She has taught us about tolerance, acceptance, and above all, hope. She's made us count our blessings and realize just how fortunate we truly are because we haven't had to go through what she has in life.
