A little boy saves his mother's life by calling for help. This is his story.
I owe my thanks and gratitude to our youngest child, Emory, who called for help when my wife got sick and had a seizure. Because of Emory, my wife is alive today.
It all started two weeks ago when Elaine said she didn't feel well, so she was going to go to bed and lie down for a while and get some rest. Well, at the time, the three oldest kids wree at school: the only one home was Emory Blake, who was only four and home sick himself (he had a cold). I had been at work.
Elaine had been asleep for several hours when she she suddenly started shaking uncontrollably. Emory thought that she was playing, so he started laughing; but when she didn't stop and didn't respond to his plaintive cries, he got scared. He knew something was wrong, so he started patting her shoulder and pleading for her to wake up. He knew he had to go and call for help, so he called 9-1-1.
Turns out that just a week prior to this incident, a policeman had visited his daycare center and talked about the 9-1-1 system and why it was so important to know what to do in an actual emergency.
My mother was at the house during this time; she stayed with Elaine while the 9-1-1 operator kept Emory on the phone, to keep his mind off the situation that was going on. The 9-1-1 operator (and my mother) both said that Emory was amazingly calm during the whole ordeal, but when the paramedics came, Emory burst into tears. Grandma then took charge and took him into the other room and tried to distract him with some simple finger games.
My wife was rushed to the hospital; it turned out that she had an allergic reaction to some medication she had been on; after a few days observation, she eventually recovered and was back home before the weekend. She was in the hospital for five days.
It was nothing short of a miracle. And I owe my thanks to one brave little four-year-old boy named Emory Blake.
