Dead-Eye may have met his match, much to the dismay of the townspeople.

I reckon it was bound to happen sooner or later.
Dead-Eye has been shot. He is currently laid up at Doc Tilghman's place. He was shot ihe stomach. He was hurt very badly.
The guy who shot him is obviously not from this side of town; otherwise, he may have thought twice than to raise his gun to someone like Dead-Eye. Dead-Eye does not cotton to lawbreakers; so far he's managed to keep trouble at bay.
Then this Pistol Pete came blowin' into town. A pudgy, swarthy-skinned gentleman from Mexico: yeah, that's Pistol Pete, as we call him (real name's Pedro Gonzalez; he's a notorious bank robber, cattle rustler, and other infractions that are agin the law). He dared to get into a gun battle with Dead-Eye. Apparently, Dead-Eye had an off day; otherwise, Pistol Pete Gonzalez would more'n likely be dead or locked up good and tight in the county jail.
We are all prayin' for Dead-Eye: praying he pulls through. From the way Doc Tilghman's talkin', it may not happen. His insides (guts, stomach) were all shot up; he may also be paralyzed. Then what good would that be??
I'm suddenly scared for Dead-Eye. Pray for a miracle for him; if he doesn't make it, then the lawbreakers will more'n likely make a return appearance, and right now, we can't afford that.
In this collection of Western fiction, I’ve endeavored to bring the reader a little laughter at the expense of my characters, even though they are at times engaged in life threatening adventures. Learn to say something nice to all of your enemies l
