Twelve limbs, always in constant motion. Three pairs of luminous dark eyes that don't miss a trick. Six floppy ears.
This is what I have to face every day, ever since my darling husband, Joe, got me not one, not two, but three chocolate labrador puppies the other day for my birthday. Not that I mind, but three puppies at once? Why couldn't have Joe gotten me only one?? It might be easier to handle ...
This way, I have to constantly be on guard, to make sure that the puppies don't get into trouble (easier said than done; it's like having three toddlers at once living in our home!), and make sure that they are well fed and watered. I have to know where they are and what they are doing at every given moment or disaster is sure to follow.
They are cute now, but as everybody knows, puppies can't stay little forever. Given by the size of their paws, they will probably be quite large before they even reach a year old. I've heard Labradors can weigh as much as 60 or 70 pounds easily. So I'd best make sure that they have all they need: food, toys, water, all the supplies to keep our newest "family additions" healthy, happy, and entertained.
My husband has always been a dog-man. I prefer cats, but because of Joe's darn allergies, we cannot have cats, or else he could get violently sick and end up in the emergency room because he cannot breathe. His allergies are that serious. Yet for some strange reason, dog fur does not bother him; he has always had dogs in his life. I had cats until college, when my last cat was taken by a coyote. I haven't stopped grieving since. Guess Joe got sick of me gobbling about my lost kitty once too many times, so he opted to get another pet, but this time a dog, anything to fulfill his wishes. So now we have a dog. Well, three dogs, anyway.
It is going to be very interesting to live with three furry bundles of chocolate; I can already tell that Flopsy, Mopsy, and Muttley are going to be a handful ... and then some. I don't know if I am really ready to handle being a "parent" to three canine bundles of joy! Yet that is exactly what has happened. Oy, vey!!
