Today I was having one of "those days". Those days where everything can (and does) go wrong. And it was before noon when I felt like crying.
It all started when I started awake when I heard someond thudding down the stairs. It sounded like someone fell. Jumping out of bed, I was surprised to find my husband sprawled at the bottom of the stairs on the floor. He wasn't hurt (thank God!), but he was startled; he would probably be sporting a few bumps and bruises.
Turns out hubs fell over one of the roller skates left out by one of the kids.
Secondly, I heard the unneving sound of our youngest child's apnea monitor. Thinking something was horribly wrong, I went into Devyn's room, ready to administer CPR on her ... only to see her laughing as she held the monitor lead in her chubby little fist. I was so relieved and so surprised, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so I did both.
After that near-heart attack experience, I checked on the time. Six thirty. The other three kids were slumbering away in their beds. They needed to get up and get ready for school, or they were going to miss the bus.
After wrangling the last kid out of bed and handing her lunch money, I then shut the door, relieved that I could settle back into a relaxing routine.
Not so fast. For it was about then when Devyn decided to throw up all over her bed. Groaning, I undressed her and cleaned up the mess as quickly as I could. I then took the soiled PJ's and bedclothes to the laundry room ... only to discover the hose on the washer had busted, flooding our basement.
I screamed for hubs to take care of the problem in the washroom/basement. He couldn't do it because he had winched his back from the fall earlier on the steps. So I had to call for a plumber, which was going to leave a big cut out of my pocketbook.
The plumber was on call. I would have to wait for him to get through, then tell him about our busted hose on the washing machine and our flooded basement.
I was not happy, to say the least.
Once the plumber showed up (two hours later), I decided to take Devyn to the store; we had to get some groceries. I would then worry about the laundry when we got back. I ended up getting into a massive traffic jam (thanks to an 18 wheeler that had turned on its side, snarling traffic for miles); I had to take an alternative route to get to the grocery store (which took twice as long). Devyn was not in her best frame of mind. She was very clingy (not to mention, whiny); I also had to put up with people's comments and stares. I was about to join her in her whine/cry fest by the time I got done at the store.
Yet through all that happened, God was with me. I could somehow feel His presence within me, which was like a healing, soothing balm to my frazzled state. I soon took several deep breaths and thanked Him for all that had happened and realized just how truly blessed I really was. I then felt a huge weight lift off of my shoulders and began praising Him with a song from church. So many things went wrong; yet God brought me through them with His infinite grace and mercy; I knew that He was in control and all I had to do was lean on Him and learn to trust Him in all things.
