My uncle on my Daddy's side, Uncle Tecumseh Little Eagle, is a World War II veteran, and Daddy will not let us forget it either, especially since this is Memorial Day weekend.
Daddy says if it were not for heroes like Uncle Tecumseh (or those who died in battle defending our country's freedoms), we would not even BE free. This is why there is a holiday like Memorial Day, so we can remember their brave sacrifices.
Uncle Tecumseh lives in Oklahoma, near Wynnwood. It's a thousand miracles that he didn't lose anything in the recent tornado outbreak that caused so much heartache for people in Shawnee and Moore, where people died or were injured and property was lost. It was only by God's grace that Uncle Tecumseh wasn't hurt or even killed.
It just goes to show you: not even a little bitty ol' tornado is enough to scare Uncle Tecumseh away. Heck, he's been in wars for goodness' sake! He's always been a tough old bird, and I am grateful that I am his niece!!
Uncle Tecumseh is in his nineties now. He lives in a retirement village for senior citizens; he has many friends and tries to stay active. He bowls, he plays card games, and he loves to listen to books or to the radio (his eyes aren't that good anymore). He can walk, but not well; this is why he prefers to use a wheelchair, so he doesn't get tired out.
I just hope that there are no more storms so I don't have to keep worrying about Uncle Tecumseh like this. When I heard about the tornadoes of last week, I was so scared!! I was never so happy when I heard that my uncle had survived!!
