Hola! Como esta usted?

My name is Belen Milagro Huerta.  I am 8 years old.  I will be in the third grade in September.  I live in Houston, Texas, with my family.

In my family, I have a mama, a papa (I call them Mami and Papi), a grandma (I call her Abuela), and five brothers (two younger, three older; I'm the only girl).  My brothers are Arturo (!4), Oscar (12), Omar (10), Miguelito (6), and Hector-Eduardo (3).  We also have five dogs.  We have a very big family.

At school, my best friend is Helena Martinez.  I've been her best friend since we were in kindergarten together.  In the neighborhood, my best friend is Guadalupe Ortiz.  I've known her since we were practically babies; we've been best friends for years!  I wish Helena lived closer; I bet she would like Guadalupe.

When I grow up I would like to be a singer like Selena or maybe a dancer or actress.  Or maybe a writer of children's books.  

Some of my favorite things to do include singing, dancing (I take folk, jazz, tap, and modern dance; I've been taking dance lessons for four years), playing on the computer, reading, talking on the phone with my best friends, playing baseball, softball, and soccer, going to the zoo or to the amusement park, going to concerts (I've seen John Sebastian, Jennifer Lopez, and Los Lonely Boys, as well as Loretta Lynn, Collin Raye, and Joe Diffie), and playing with our pets and with my brothers (when they aren't being annoying, that is).

I speak both Spanish and English.  At home, I speak either, but at school, I speak English, though I can speak Spanish if I want to.  I would like to learn French, but it looks and sounds so hard!!  Some of the kids at my school are Cajuns, and they speak French if they don't want the rest to know what they are talking about.  

Did you have a good Fourth of July?  We did; we went on a picnic and then saw fireworks in the evening, after the sky got dark; the fireworks were awesome!  It's too bad it's only one day; I would love to have the Fourth of July go all weekend long!!  That way I could have several chances to see fireworks!!  I love fireworks!!

Well, Mami wants me to come set the table; it's about time for supper.  Tonight we're having enchiladas, salad, and for dessert, peach cobbler.  Yum!!  I will write in here again another day; until then, this is Belen Huerta saying adios!  Hasta luego!  Tien buen noche y Dios la bendiga!!
