A mother newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis writes to her children.

July 22, 2013~

Dear Emberly, Titan, Isaiah, Rebecah, and Harper~

This is your Mommy writing.  I am writing to let you know just how much you are loved, not only by your daddy and myself, but others who know you.  I'm also writing to let you know that no matter what happens down the road, that love will never fade, ever.

I am writing to let you know that I have been sick and having problems with my walking and my balance.  Well, I went to the hospital, where I was admitted and had tests; the doctors have since concluded that I have multiple sclerosis, which is a neurological disorder that can be progressive.  While it is unkown at the time if I will get worse, I hope that I can be helped and that the disease won't get worse for a long while to come.

I may need help with things and I need to let you all understand that it is okay to be scared, worried, or sad.  I am scared, sad, and worried too, but if we bnad together and help each other out, then things should be easier in the long run.

I am coming home with some "helpers" ... namely my wheelchair, crutches, and a walker.  Some days I may need just the crutches; on others, the walker or even the wheelchair may suffice.  They are not meant to hurt me; they are meant to help me get around easier.  Hopefully with my "friends", I won't fall or stumble quite as often.

I will need more help than usual.  I hope and pray that you don't get mad at me if I do.  I did not bring the MS upon myself; it was just something that came out of nowhere, and it is nobody's fault.  I don't like having MS any better than you do, but again, if we help each other out and try to be there for each other, things should go relatively smoothly.

I do hope you know that I am still the same mommy as I was before all this came upon me.  I may get around differently than what you are used to, but again, that's okay.  We will get through this together.  We will have to rely on others to help me (and you all) through the "rough days" and know that it is okay to be angry, sad, or annoyed.

Well, I will let you go.  I am tired; that is another thing.  Seems that the MS makes me tired.  But Daddy and Grandma are there to help out, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me (if I am available), Daddy, or Grandma.  We (or they) will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.  I love you, kiddos, and I hope you know that.  I love each and every one of you with every fibre of my being!

~Love, Mommy.  :)

Awwe, this one had to have been hard to write, Karen. Hopefully, her family will be supportive and be there for her. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
