Open sores everywhere.  Fur riddled with fleas and lifeless in nature.  Eyes crusted nearly shut.  So thin every rib can be counted.  Paws cracked and bleeding.  Infection evident.

This is what we have to deal with as we care for the kitten, which arrived at our doorstep yesterday.  It is unknown at this time whether the kitten will even make it.  Somebody left a cardboard box on our front doorstep; when we saw the kitten inside, we all gasped in horror. 

Well, the kitten has been here for one day now, and his condition remains critical at best.  If this kitten survives with everything intact and no lasting damage, it will be a god-given miracle.  Until then, we have to work hard to ensure that this kitten, roughly around six to eight weeks of age, has a chance of survival (and hopefully adopted) down the road.

The sight of this hapless kitten's overall condition has truly sickened me and the members of the staff.  I honestly don't know why people manage to treat animals like this.  This kitten deserved a far better life than what it has already gotten, and it's only starting out.  If the person in question didn't want this cat, why didn't he (or she) just bring it to the shelter instead of letting it get into the shape it's currently in??  I tell you, some people should never be around (or let alone) have any pets EVER!!

If this kitten survives, we will make darn sure that the person responsible for this is charged with animal neglect and animal cruelty!!
