I should have paid attention to President Huckabee's warnings yesterday.

I was out for only five to ten minutes (waiting to get the mail), and I already have a nasty sunburn, one of the worst ones ever.  I look (and feel) like a boiled crawfish.  It really hurts; I pray I don't get skin cancer because of this ...

And I have noticed other things too: our phone and internet services have gone out, and the power keeps flickering on and off in spurts.  It's a good thing it's in the seventies up here in Ohio; I can't imagine what it must be like down south, where a heat wave is gripping that part of the country.  I am suddenly worried and scared for the people down that way ....

The weather people have said that there are aurora warnings out.  They say the K index (which measures the intensity of solar storms or flares) is high: they are running as high as 8 or 9, which means that tonight, when it gets dark out, auroras will (or may) be possible as far south as Florida, South America, and Mexico.  Auroras are rare that far south.  Very rare.  And they are expected to be as bright as they are in the polar regions, which is unheard of.

That means more possibility of system wide failures of communication devices and computers.  That is not going to be good because so many people rely on computers or phones to keep in touch.  This is probably going to cause mass chaos and panic around the world!

I am sure there will be other implications too, such as brownouts or possible power outages, which is only going to exacerbate things.  Who knew that the sun could be the cause of such calamity??

I am not looking forward to what can happen tonight if the power fails ..... it is going to be a nightmare!!
