In Murdering
each author must first choose who:
the criminal, the instance, the innocent
the hapless, who is to die in the Author's Eyes?
This is the first step to single out
identify
the victim, or the one who deserved dying
from this the world view, the sense of outrage, revenge,
or mere happenstance subfuses an authors thinking.
To kill on paper is the author's thrill, but not the resolution
or the ending
because the author's cant is the murder moment
but he/she too must pay the reader
in moral reckonings
detective siftings
but be clear the thrill
for the author is in the killng;
all else is for the thrill of the reader
who guesses at the killer;
and to be sure, all authors lie
to mislead the audience
seeking to guess
the author's murderous intents
and realizations
but a good author deceives.
All else are subsequents
victims and investigations
greek tragedy or revenge sought
motives
societies lessons tweeked
perpetrator jailed
and sometimes killed.
All is a morality play
inside
the real thrill
which is the author's desire to kill
and
being able
on paper
to blame
it on
somebody
else--
befuddle,
deceive
all without
guilt-
blameless
thrill.
Why all this
should be
is the True Stuff
of Mystery
usually wrapped inside
Romance,
Strong Emotion
and Action.
Could this be
a hidden message:
all
Life is Meaningless
without
these:
to live fully
is to risk
all
for Good
Or Ill?
Surely this
if you think upon it
fully decribes
Human History
which has elements
of both
Tragedy
and Dark Mystery
where individuals
indeed nations
risk murder
for ends
mysterious
which in the end
remains unknown
and dare I say mysterious.

An interesting article probing into the mystery of why authors write about murder. I believe you're quite right about being able to lie, deceive, kill, and get away with it on paper. On the other side, if the author happens to be famous, are millions of readers willing to gobble up all the murder and mayhem, vicariously… Just like the author. I am watching Stephen King's Under the Dome, and find it is filled with unexpected murder that leaves you second guessing as to what King is up to next.
Unfortunately, a good portion of real-life murders are from imitators of fiction. People strangely want to live out the fantasies they read about and even sacrifice their lives and others just for their fifteen minutes of fame.
