It is still too early to see if Margie sustained any lasting brain damage (or paralysis) as a result of the wreck she had two days ago. Right now it is a "wait-and-see" period.
Two days ago, we were celebrating a successful cruise to Alaska and back. We were gone ten days, seven of them aboard the Coral Princess cruise ship. We had very little warning of what was to take place. Now we have gone from elation to the darkest depths of despair.
Just one day after getting back from Alaska, we were on our way to pick up the children from school when, about five miles away from the school, a car going the wrong way plowed into the family's SUV, on the passenger side. The world tilted violently, then everything went black. The last thing I remember was hearing the sharp scream of my wife and the tilting scenery. When I woke up, I was surprised to find myself in a hospital emergency room, doctors and nurses bending down over me.
Miraculously, I wasn't badly hurt, but my body hurt for days. I felt as if I had been run over by a fleet of semi trucks. Even my hair and teeth hurt. Then I remembered Margie, my wife. When I asked about her, the doctor shushed me and told me to get some rest.
Later on that day, I woke up again, and I asked Dr. Chivikar about Margie. I was determined to find out how she was faring. That was when he told me the terrible news, that she had been badly injured, suffering from massive internal injuries and possible brain damage. Currently, Margie was in a coma. Things did not look good at all.
It was the worst possible news that I could have ever gotten.
