My name is Joe Ann Davis.  I am a concern citizen, writing you and the National Crime Commissioner in Washington, DC.,about the "cruel and unusual punishments" going and have been going on Madison County jail and Rankin county jails, and in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Here are a few of the stories.

This email is regarding an inmate, Dennis Beal, who set up by Madison County policemen, to admit to something he didn't do for fear of his life. This young man was sentenced by a judge, who gave him 77 years, plus 365 days plus a 5 million dollar fine, without any chance of the possibility of parole.  This time does not fit the crime at all.  Ad we will fight until this verdict is overturned for this young man.  Another man, Marcus Vaughn, who had a paid attorney from Tennessee.  He appears that this young man was rail roaded with a 30 year mandatory sentence, for a man slaughter. Michael Jackson's attorney only got 4 years for a Man Slaughter charge.  Then there is Antonio Goldman #L2050 who was stabbed by 14 gang members, on June 13, 2008, by other gang members, after the CO, Ruthie Moore, opened a cell block that wasn't suppose to opened in Parchman, a Mississippi State Prison, on June 2008.  After the stabbings, Mr. Goldmman asked Ms. Moore to open the outside door so that he could get out to save his life.  According to him, Ms. Moore just starred and looked at him, watching him bleed to death.  Mr. Goldmon was rushed out and/or taken to an outside hospital, Clarksdale Community Hospital, where when he died, they had resuscitated him, because medical examiners there found internal bleeding.  This all took place after one of the MDOC officers, opened a cell for other inmates to attack this man, when the attackers were not suppose to be out of their cells. Mr. Goldman, has been stabbed since that time in October 2010 over the left or right eye, by some of the same gang members who attacked him before.  Is there a law against inmates attacking other inmates in the Department of Corrections.  We have sense discovered that some of the inmates at these public and private prison in the State of Mississippi are having a very hard time dealing with the cruel and unusual punishment these inmates are suffering in the state of Mississippi.  

 

I reported this incident to the American Civil Liberties Union to a Ms. Nikita Flowers, to see if Mr. Goldman could get an attorney for his case, after a few weeks, she told me that since we had already filed the case, no one the ACLU office would take the case.  In between that time, I located two attorneys, not sure of what their names are, but neither one of those attorney, returned my phone call, after I gave them information on how Mr. Goldman was stabbed and treated by state officials in MDOC after the horrific stabbings.

 

This whole incident happened over a cell phone, that inmates are not suppose to have, but even so.  It is not the inmates who are bringing in the cell phones.  Correctional Officers are the reliable source who bring in these cell phones to the inmates, even though the inmates knows they are not suppose to have them.  They are not suppose to have drugs in prison either, but yet, inmates get high and cell to other inmates.  I just wonder what laws will be implemented to curve this "mess up.  Even so, I kept calling the United States District Court, Greenville Division, to see if Mr. Goldman needed an attorney, the clerk kept telling me, saying, "he didn't need an attorney," each time I called."  Yet, when he get to court and saw that the defendant former CO Ruthie Moore had an attorney, so, my question to you Mr. Hood was not  the court suppose to appoint Mr. Goldman an attorney to prepare him for this civil case. Instead, on the date of the court hearing which was on February 8, 2012, Ms. Ruthie Moore, former Correctional Officer had an attorney to represent her by the state, Mr, Goldman didn't have, could not hire and could not find an attorney to represent him and the United States District Northern District of Mississippi, Greenville, Division court didn't appoint him an attorney to represent him, and all the long, I was calling the court house to see if Mr. Goldman truly needed one.  However, we know that we needed an attorney for this incident, but no attorney would return any of our phone calls regarding representation.  It was like someone came from afar and told them a secret to keep.  Mr. Goldmon did an objection by mail, on March 5, 2012.  Then on May 21, 2012, the judge overruled and dismissed Antonio Goldmon's case, this is a violation of this man's civil rights.  We are calling for a NATIONAL Interference/publicity (i.e., newspaper, cnn report, national television, ABC, CBS, NBC to this case and others, whose civil rights have violated in the state of Mississippi.  Back in early 2000, Timothy Davis, was beaten in Rankin County Jail,to the point that he was denied medical help. At that time he was on a $50,000.  Within one week those authorities, because Jessie Jackson was coming there, hurried up and scheduled a court date for Mr. Davis to go back to court, this time the judge lowered the bond to $5000, when meant that it cost on $500 for him to come get out. Two days later, Timothy Davis was out of jail, just in time for his mother's funeral.  What I am writing is true . Because I am member of Operation Push, PoliticNation and NAACP. We keep our records faithfully. Because things like this always come up again and again. We are asking that your visitation laws be altered, so that family members can see their loved ones on the day designated, and not because MDOC is hiding the marks, the broken bones, the knots and the injuries, these inmates have sustained while in MDOD.  I have been in a lot of prisons,and have heard a lot a talk, but nothing like the  brutality going in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.  There are too many horror stories.  It seems to be more corruptions on the inside of the prisons where their are guards, than the outside.  This goes to show you, that man has gotten in to far over his head.  They have invented a system that is hard to manage (the prison system)now it seems as if there are more killing/beatings etc., than rehabilitation.  God is always in control and HE will be in control for ever, and for those of you, who think you are getting away with this evil mess, I am here to tell you that you are only getting "By."  You nor me will be able to stand up against the punishment that GOD hands down.  Cause when you are got by GOD you are truly GOT!  A real Curse comes upon you!     

 

Mr. Hood, I have papers here where Mr. Goldmon, asked to be put in protective custody and Judge Jerry A Davis, United STates Magistrate, who has sinced retired asked that Mr. Goldman be put in protective custody.  After which time, Mr. Goldmon he was sent to Marshall Correctional Facility in HollySprings, MS., where he stayed until Prison Officials set him up, to get caught with another cell phone.  Since being back in Parchman,Mr. Goldman is in the same bldg, where he got brutally stabbed before in the same prison, almost the same cell.  

 

We are told that the conditions in Parchman is inhumane and nasty. Authorities who are told of these conditions, also inform the prison officials and they have the inmates to do a thorough cleaning before the inspection.  Then the next two day, the prison is inhumane that amounts to "cruel and unusual punishments."  Some times the National Bureau of Prisons needs to just start sending people out unexpectedly to catch what is truly going on in these prison.  Don't take other people's word. We are so sure you will find more "dirt" under the rugs than you expect.   We know that prison makes a lot of money and/or receives a lot of revenue, for it to be ran properly, but at some point and time, these cruel and unusual punishment, administering inmates medication, beating them, scarring them  up out of their sleep at night, with mask on, as if the KKK has visited to announce a lynching. Some are beaten and some are so afraid until they are made to admit to crimes they didn't commit, for REAL. We are also told that some inmates on prescribed are made to take them have hallucinating moods.  Not only that, we are told that administration/officers have other inmates to remove dead inmates bodies from the place of death to the prison's morgue.  We are told this is not an inmate's job to remove dead bodies from place in a correctional institution.  Some inmates, because of these harsh conditions, commits suicide, because they could not stand the unbearable dehumanizing conditions the prisons in Mississippi are.  We are told that some inmates are even given and/or taken overdosed of medications, because they can't, don't, and want to live through those horrible conditions any longer.  

 

I received a phone call from one inmate who was just released on home monitor,from one of Marshall Correctional,a MIssissippi State prison, just before Haley Barbour released over 200 inmates last year, where inmates are standing in circles "praying" that someone BIG PRISON OFFICIAL from the outside will come and be an inmate for a while,(organize a "set up," and watch what is truly going on...The only reasons you and I don't know about these conditions, is because and I are not incarcerated there.  So, some one from higher up should investigate thoroughly.  The government investigates everything else, especially if they don't want that person in a political office.  Why shouldn't some national attention be given to Mississipi, especially the Madison County and Rankin County jails.  Those white folks are just beating those  inmates in jail. Then they hand down time like 77years, plus 365 days without the possibility of parole for a cocaine charge. Come now, a serial killer is not given that much time.  I call it a "hate sentence."  It may not be that, but even so, why is a murder crime, considered a "hate crime."  I am not sure of all the details, but it is all over WLBT Channel 3 News out of Jackson, MIssissippi, in December.  That same news clip in on YouTube now! This young man was set up, according his report 

 

 Mississippi Commissioner, all the way down to the CO like they have set so many of the inmates up) to see how terrible they are being treated.  Even though Mr. Goldman have committed crimes, a lot of us on the outside of prison have also committed crimes, but some of us didn't get caught up.  These people even though they are locked up, they are still people first and criminals next. Yet, when they are released back into society, with an outlook on how to do more crime.  

 

Mr. Webb, isn't it a fact that the system is made to fail us.  For example, A rapist is allowed to live in our communities, where good people live, and where most have high paying jobs.  I am talking families with small young girls, who walks to school everyday, and many times their parents never see them alive again, because the system allowed this animal back in a "sane society" and he is allowed by the system to "rape and kill" our family members and to destroy lives and homes ALL over again.  Why can't the justice system use a different approach, like housing them in a designated state. Then everyone will know, this is the state where all the rapist are made to come and live.  If this is too costly, for the system, then the State should have "rape" parolees instead of registering as a "sex offender," Clearly this isn't working, because the violent sex offenders don't register, and they are released to rape and some cases kill, to avoid going back to prison.  The system is failing us.  As a family, families are afraid to go out at night to have  fun with other family members, for fear of being mugged, rapped or killed.  It is my belief that the National Criminal Justice Commission should implement a law or laws for each "sex offender" no matter what tier or state, should have stitched in their bodies,a device by a State Medical Officials, that announces that sex offender's  full name and address.  This way, people can check on their cell phones, when they are out in public and after they recognizes the ring tone, they can check rite away to see that this person is a "sex offender," since most people are not computer literate, but most know how to work the cell phones at great lengths.  Lets face it,that plan, "home monitor" ain't working either, because they snatches that off the ankle and go and commit more crimes as well.  Times are changing, crimes are more violent, so the National Crime Commission, must use its team members for peace sake, to save our future, our children from these horrendous and horrifying crimes.  Bill Cosby once said, " I am 76 years old, and I am on my way out, but what is going to happen to the ones on their way in."  

 

Now back to Antonio Goldman,#L2050 an inmate at Parchman Prison, in Parchman, MS. 

 

After I was given "power of attorney" for Antonio Goldmon, I didn't know that Mississippi State Officials would allow this type of legal procedure.  I thought once you were in prison, prison officials are who you belonged to.  Family and/or friends has no say so over nothing once you are incarcerated.  ..... state officials allowed thi protect law abiding citizen and our families in the United States of America.  t truly sounds like a ring tone to alert a people, he or she is a "sex offender."  y should have them wear an "alert button." and everytime they pass or come in contact with a human being, child, woman, and man, the bell not button will not only alert authorities, but also any witness they be in area at the time the rape crime is committed.  .   implemented by Oh, but don't tell me Mr. Webb, there isn't enough budget money for this type of implementation.  Yes, Homeland Security is protecting us from the outsider, but who is protecting from the inside?  It is certainly not our "serve and protect."  I am sorry, but I call it like I see it. Innocent people are being rapped and killed, mutilated, and thrown away, because of your system, Mr. Webb.  If we look at this realistically, prison are suppose to rehabilitate you, so that you can be a positive and a contribute to our growing society.  Instead, and we have found, that prison is nothing but a place for people who keeps making mistakes go to learn more CRIME.

 Mr. Goldman does have a criminal background/record.  But he did not have all of those mental and physical bodily injuries before he was incarcerated on August 15, 2002. Think about it! 

People are wondering what is happening with their loved ones, and when they do find them, most of them who are still alive, they are in another world.  They have broken bones, like a beaten victim.  They don’t recognize who the family member truly is.  These are true stories.  Family members should be able to see their loved ones on the day designated.  Yet, I am told by some of these victims, that prison authorities don’t and won’t allow you to see your “incarcerated loved one.”  Because they have been almost beaten and/or either stabbed to death, and treated like animals……

 

The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) didn’t and wouldn’t allow what is happening in the Mississippi Department of Corrections to inmates/offenders to happen.  There are just too many non-profit organizations, inmates can write to, for help.  

 

Never for the sake of me, will I be able to understand, how the system truly works.  What rights, regardless of what crimehappened to Blacks in the past.   We need to focus on what is happening to us nowReports show also, Mississippi Department of Correction also have a high suicidal rate, and or raped crimes.
