A family continues to run for their very lives in the midst of anti-Jewish attacks on their homes and businesses during the Second World War.

Amazingly enough, we are still alive, but as to where we are, I can't say, for fear we will be discovered.  So I am writing this in secret.

All our dreams have gone up in smoke.  Papa's furniture business has been destroyed and we are now homeless.  Our home has been ransacked and things we treasured have been stolen by the ruthless Nazi regime.  People have been shot and killed right in front of their own family members.

It is a very scary, uncertain times in our lives.  I don't know what is going to happen; I'm more terrified than I have ever been in my life.  I pray none of our family is killed; that would be the worst thing I could ever experience!

We continue to look for places to hide, which isn't easy, because Nazi soldiers and police are crawling all over the place.  The air is filled with acrid, hazy smoke from burning buildings, and people are all in a panic.  The Nazis are rounding up as many Jews as they can find; they promise that they will be taken care of, but somehow, I don't see that happening.  They mean to harm us; I see the hatred and contempt in their eyes and on their faces.

They have called this attack on the Jewish people and businesses "Kristallnacht" ("Night of Glass").

I have heard rumours that there are camps for Jewish people; the Nazis plan to take us there if we are found and captured.  They say they will care for us, but again, I think they are lying.  They've lied to us so far; why even begin to believe them??

Please say some prayers on our behalf; pray we stay safe and pray we get to safety quickly!
