We have a wonderful friend in Eidelweiss.  Eidelweiss, who is three years old, is our German Spitz.  We got her at the local animal shelter a year ago; she has been a wonderful companion to our family.

We got Eidelweiss as a way to help cheer up my wife, who was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer at the time.  Happily, the chemotherapy worked; she is now cancer-free (though she has to get regular check ups every month; when five years pass, she will be declared cancer-free; she has four years to go).  We think that Eidelweiss had something to do with it because until she came into her life, Debra was extremely depressed and was ready to give up all hope.

Eidelweiss was named because Debra loved the musical "The Sound Of Music"; "Eidelweiss" was one of the songs in the show.  When she first saw the dog, she knew she had found a perfect name for her; so that was how our dog got her name.

Eidelweiss has long, white fur, ears that stick up like twin flags, huge, dark, expressive eyes, and a perpetual grin, as well as a tail that flips up over her back.

She is really pretty.  And she is very friendly, not only to us, but to everybody.  There isn't anyone she won't warm up to: she is a potential friend to all.

Like most dogs, Eidelweiss loves to play, spend time with "her humans", go on car rides or long walks, go to the dog park near where we live, and sleep with the children (or with Debra).  She also loves to watch televison (she is particularly fond of Animal Planet; she holds conversations with the dogs on television by barking happily at them) and "sing" whenever Carissa and Colby play their violin and keyboard.  She is a very happy dog, and she's made our lives that much pleasant and enjoyable.

Well, I hate to go, but Eidelweiss wants to go for her evening constitutional; she is really chomping at the bit to be let out.  I think we will join her; it is such a pretty day outside.  I hope you enjoyed learning about our dog; she is really one of a kind!!
