What does the de Blasio Victory potentially mean for the future?
My view:
1. It portends that bottom up is where change is going to occur, not from the top down. This will be true across the country where people are taking things into their own hands and reinventing America because Wall Street, politicians and the monied classes certainly will not.
De Blasio won 73% of the vote in NY City. There are other examples which can be cited despite the media trumpeting the Christie victory in New Jersey. That is not representative of trends in the country, it is indicative of the status-quo-not any way forward, or things of significance for the country's future.
A second reason the de Blasio victory got buried in the main stream press is because it represents the future in threatening ways to the politicians and the monied classes:
1 It occurred in NY City on the home turf of Wall Street. De Blasio has stated quite clearly that he will tax the rich, stop "Stop and Frisk," and take on the Bloomberg billionaire club and its interests.
It won't be easy of course, but what it clearly indicates is that the message of Occupy Wall Street has become part of the new mayor's political planning. Occupy has won, but you will not see that talked about in the main stream press.
A militarized police force, corruption, an economy based on income inequality will now get daily attention and that approach will spread to other urban areas. That point is not lost on tea party America where in some rural areas city councils have threatened to secede from the state or from the union.

Many see see this urban agenda as deeply threatening and a trend they deeply oppose.
Population trends alone make it inevitable that America and the West is, and will become, even more multi-cultural and multi-racial as is indicated by the items in this blog above.
Moreover, it is a trend that is clear in all, if not most, of the Western World, which is why immigration is such an issue in most Western countries.
These folks see the hand-writing on the wall and they don't like it and literally want to roll back the clock, or at least, in America, and to incarcerate as many of these minorities as possible. We have 5% of the world's population and 25% of the world's prisoners, more than China or Russia-most of the inmates there on minor drug charges, and most Latino and black-all this providing jobs for whites in rural areas, where these prisons are located.
You don't have to be a rocket person to realize that politics in this country is based money and on race, from Nixon's southern strategy, to food stamps, to poverty disproportionally impacting minorities as a deliberate goal, to voter suppression politics in the republican states, to the fact that the Republican Party is now the party of older, white males.
These two aspects, money and race, are bottom line in American politics and always has been since the on-set of slavery. After all this country fought a civil war over race.
Finally, the de Blasio victory has meaning for the future because to look that de Blasio's interracial family is to view the future, a future which many
see as a nightmare and others see as hope and an inevitable part of America's future.
Some are frightened by that future peaceful prospect and would rather see the country erupt in race wars, economic oppression or chaos in the streets rather that support it.
The country is at this decision point now, especially in an era of decreasing resources, climate change, and the end of American prosperity.
Here's hoping that change will be peaceful.
