Today was a horrible, the worst day, that I could have ever experienced. I never want to go through something like this ever again.
My dad is now in the hospital, fighting for his very life. He suffered a sudden heart attack right when I was in the same room with him. One minute he was talking, laughing, and joking; the next, he lay on the floor, gasping for every breath, clutching his chest. It scared the living hell out of all of us, especially me. Up to this point, Dad had been the picture of health: he never drank or smoked and exercised every day.
I immediately went to my father's side and had Trina (that's my wife) call for the paramedics. It seemed like forever until I heard the approaching sirens at last, but it was actually only a few moments (maybe like four or five at the most).
Soon, paramedics swarmed around my father, taking his vital signs, affixing pads to his now exposed chest, and slapping an oxygen mask over his face. My father continued to struggle for each and every breath, sweat pouring down his face, which was now a sickly grey-green color. They worked efficiently but quickly. Soon they had him on the rolling gurney bed and took him out to the back of hte ambulance, where they loaded him up and soon were on their way to the nearest hospital.
After they left, I stood there, trying to soak in what had happened. Up until this point, it had been one of my better days. I had just gotten home from work (found out I had gotten a two dollar raise) and didn't have to fight traffic (I took a shortcut). I then came home to the smell of my favorite meal cooking in the kitchen: scalloped potatoes and ham. I then went to the livingroom to say hello to my father when he suffered his heart attack.
Boy, talk about a mood changer. It was a nightmare come true .
I am now here at the hospital with Dad. He is in the ICU, and he isn't doing very well, according to doctors, but they assured me that they will do all they can to help him and to ensure his chances of survival. Until then, all I can do is wait, hope, and above all, pray that Dad beats this.
