If I could do anything for Harper Michael, it would be for people to love him as I do or see him for who he is, not for WHAT he is.
At the age of six, Harper cannot walk, talk, or eat on his own. He was born with cerebral palsy due to a dcotor's negligence (we won our case; so for now at least Harper will have the best of care, and we don't have to worry so much about money or bills at the current time). I don't like to talk about it.
Harper has two older sisters, Hayleigh Dawn and Hannah Denise, who are nine and fourteen, who dote on him. They're the best girls (or big sisters) that any parent could have ever hoped (or asked) for. I just wished more kids were like them because most kids (and even some adults) see the wheelchair instead of Harper.
Harper is not his wheelchair, nor is he his disability. He is a little boy who just happened to have a rootten deal in life; it is NOT his fault, and I want people to see his beautiful, dark eyes, thick, red hair that falls to his shoulders, and incredibly long lashes. I want them to see how he smiles whenever people talk to him and to see the joy he truly feels. He is a wonderful little boy with a happy, laid-back personality, and I am so proud to be his mother!!
Do I feel anger or bitterness towards the doctor who caused his cerebral palsy. Absolutely, but I have since forgiven him and have chosen to move on past that part. All I care about now is making Harper comfortable, happy, and to keep him as healthy as possible, and if hospitalized, I want to be there for him. Why would I want to deal on the hurts that the doctor caused?? There is really nothing anyone can do to make him better or help him except to prevent seizures, feed/medicate him every four/five hours, and to change him whenever he needs it, in addition to bathing him, brushing his hair and teeth, and dressing him accordingly to the weather.
It's not easy, but I will do everything for my son. I'm his mother, and I love Harper with all my heart; so do his sisters. I will defend him to the grave if I have to.
Well, I hate to go, but it's time for me to hook Harper up to his afternoon feedings, then put him down for a nap. He stayed home from school today because he had a doctor's appointment at 10:00; we just got home a while ago. Just learn to see Harper as I see him: a little boy in need of love and acceptance!
