All my life, people have told me that I have a pretty singing voice. I didn't believe it until I got older and people started taking notice.
I used to wonder where I got it from: heck, I certainly didn't get it from my parents. My Daddy was tone deaf at best and Mom wasn't much better. Not to put them down, but they could not sing.
When I was about ten, the pastor from my church invited me to sing O Holy Night for the church's Christmas program. I accepted, but I was so nervous. Somehow I made it through, and when the applause hit my ears, I knew that I wanted to be a singer when I grew up.
When I was thirteen, I became serious about my singing. I wanted to take voice lessons but knew it wasn't cheap. Grandma knew how passionate I was about singing, so she got me voice lessons as a Christmas gift. Turns out it was the best thing she could have ever done; it was a dream come true .
By the time I reached high school, I was starting to win local singing competitions, competing against people who were twice my age. People were starting to discover me.
After graduating, I went to college, where I made singing/music my major. I was on my way to becoming a professional singer.
I noew sing for a living: I teach voice to inner-city children and perform several times a month for local functions. I enjoy what I do and I enjoy sharing my God-given gift for singing with others. I am also considering on auditioning for this season's edition of The Voice tv show. I don't know where it will take me, but as logn as it glorifies God, I am willing to take a chance; after all it was God who gave me this gift!
