Sometimes life gets in the way of church... or vice versa..
The Seer “Hi, my name is Thele. I am called by God to help wipe out apathy in churches. It’s a burdensome task, but I believe that when all is said and done, I shall receive an extra star on my crown. When I took this job, I found it hard to believe that 70% of saints day dream while listing to the Pastor’s sermon, but I believe it now!” When a pastor suspects that apathy is running rampant in his congregation, he calls me. I will go to his church unannounced. He then gives me the chore of greeting the saints as they come into the sanctuary. Funny, they all have their special spot in the pew, where they sit each and every time. Why one time, someone sat where they should not have, and a scuffle ensued. I stepped in and broke it up. Almost like a throwback scene from the old west. Anyway, when the pastor is about to preach, I’ll go and sit clear in the back of the sanctuary, so I can observe everyone. Low and behold, I can see Sister Susan knitting a scarf, complete with three balls of yarn, while her cat is swatting at a lost fourth ball under the pew. On the far side, Jeff is waxing his skies; his mom is hanging up clothes on the line. Stu, a kid from the youth group, sits in the back corner pew, he has his hands all over the pastor’s daughter… Not expecting or seeing Jim, his one -time friend, approaching from the other side with a ball bat, and bitter scowl! Doug, the pastor’s boy sits there with a look of complete exasperation, he just heard his shotgun go off while he was cleaning it… This is only a sample of what I see each and every Sunday morning in church. These saints will need to be dealt with, according to their faith or lack of it. I the seer have done my job. I wrote down names… What pastor D. Thomas preached about that Sunday morn, I couldn’t tell you; I was playing tennis.

I did find that, like ship that has sprung a leak, the whole congregation was "listing" (probably to the right where that beautiful young girl was looking starry eyed out from the choir) while listening to the pastor's monotone humdrum litany of dogmatic repetition….Yawn.
