a Fummy Mistake
It was because of a telephone call to my mother-in-law who is 91 a stroke victim and in a care home in Lancashire, England that led to this encounter.
''So Gran anything to report?''
''Umm, let me see. Oh yes. Rose is dead.''
''Very sorry to hear that. Everything else ok?
''Yes for the time being.''
I put the phone down and asked my wife:
''Joce did you know Rose died?''
''Who''s Rose? I don''t know of anyone she knows called Rose.''
We put our heads together but could not figure it out who Gran meant.
''I''ll phone back and see who it was,'' said Joce a little perturbed.
''Hi Mum. You told Miller Rose is dead. Is that right?''
''Yes dear. Roses dead.Remember the roses you gave me in June? Well sorry to say they are dead but I enjoyed them in bloom when they lasted.''
