June 6, 1944 is a date that will live forever in the pages of history and in the hearts of freedom loving people every where. 70 years later a little French boy revived it in such a perfect way.

Probably no more than once or twice in my lifetime have I been moved with grace and purpose so powerful that I am compelled to remember it for all time. June 6, 2014 was such a date. Omaha Beach at Normandy was the location. A 10 year old boy acting alone created a moment of such solemnity that it will linger in my mind and heart forever.
The story behind this young man’s action is told with love and honor in the video below. Oh it will not be understood well by those less than 20 years of age or so. Those over 40 will understand it much better. And those over 60 will find tears streaming down their faces as this tale unfolds on film from a home video camera. But if you are in your 80s or 90s, and you were on this beach on June 6, 1944 you will likely see yourself once again, in the full bloom of youth, with a lifetime ahead of you. You may have survived that day, and many more like it, to help make this world a better place for this young man and more like him. As you will see, there are very few, if any, just like him.
Many people have visited Normandy. Few understood the enormity of it like this boy. Note: Be sure to look closely at his face when the camera moves in. You will be astounded by his angelic looks.

The cynical say that television never reports stories like this, but I saw it first on television and have also viewed this video before. The cynical also say that young people, today, don't understand our history and what it took to keep our country safe during World War II. I was alive during World War II, but only two years old when D-Day occurred and by the time I was 11, the war was far behind us, only experienced on Memorial Day when my uncle, a veteran of the 101st Airborne, fired a volley that scared us at the cemetery where our family was buried. Or when my father played Taps on his bugle and my grandmother told him not to, sadly remembering both world wars.
I'm not sure what the history of this boy's family is, but it's hard for me to believe that a young boy would be so interested in dressing up as a soldier and humming a World War II soldier's song that I don't even know, without a lot of instruction or coaxing from his elders. If he did it on his own, being interested in World War II like some children might be, I commend him. If he didn't, I'm quite concerned if adults did this for publicity or political gain. It certainly touched the people that were there, especially the veterans.
