The true story of a people some wish were forgotter.
Non-fiction

Africans came to North America before Columbus, before Allyon and many others recorded in His Story. Ivan Van Sertima, an American African of mixed ancestory gave a detailed account in his book, "They Came Before Columbus."
In the diaries and logs of Columbus, one finds references to Africans on their way back to Africa from the land mass Columbus thought was India. Columbus was lost and history tells us he never even knew that he was lost.
As early as 800 BC, Africans had a civilization in Mexico. We know this because many rock carvings were found that resembled the features that has become known as traditional African looks. The time frame has been established by carbon dating. It is believed that these sculptures were representive of their preceived GODS.
Based on this and other documentation, Africans who came to this continent were FREE, not slaves. They were mariners, navigators, explorers.  Where did the Mayans go? Who were they? How did they know about pyramids?
It is believed that the first Africans to settle in what became America, came to  what is know as South Carolina today, with a Spanard named de Allyon. They came free, exploring just like the Spanards. Slave hunters were already in existance and were coming to the islands and the coast of Africa for people they could steal and sell. I  wonder why this story is ignored? What was the reason to begin this part of history with 1619?
The Africans who came that year were free also. They settled in Virginia. The first African family was the Johnson family. The first  were African, indentured servants who could earn their freedom just like the first Europeans who came to these shores.
When Andrew Jackson and his followers decided that they needed the land the Indians had in the Southeastern United States, they proposed to relocate them to a parcel of land in Central United States that Jackson, et al., deemed uninhabitable for Europeans, was given to them in exchange for their land. This new land was to be theirs 'as long and the grass was green and  the waters run'. Many died on their way to this new land. They walked, many of them, from Georgia, Mississippi, along the coast, Virginia, and the Carolinas, to this new land, Oklahoma. American Africans came with them because by that time, many of the slaves were dead and the rest had been 'freed'.
During slavery, many American Africans and Africans took refuge with the indignous people and were obsorbed into their  nations. Contrary to what is taught, all of them were not enslaved to the Indians. Slavery never was viewed by the Indians the same way the Europeans viewed it. One must remember the Europeans never knew any kind of living except the rich and the kings, nobility verses the poor, non-land owners whose survivle depended on the nobility and serfdom.
Since the Indians were enslaved too, they and the Africans formed a common bond and when the Africans ran away to the Indians, they never returned a runaway to their "owner".  Since the Indians were at home and the interlopers were foreigners, the Indians could hide and the hunters could not find them. They took the other dark brother with them. Because of this history, it is believed that at the very least one third of the American fricans in the U. S. are mixed with Indian Blood. The rest are mixed with European. The only pure Africans here just got here and even that purity is in question.
African Americans made the long miserable trek with the Indians from the South to Oklahoma. When they arrived in Oklahoma, they were given parcels of land just as the Indians did. This was the "The Trail Of Tears".
