I'll Give It My Best Shot! (excerpt from my book) When I walked out of the night club, I had to walk around the building to find them. The five guys had Paul surrounded against the metal railings over the ocean, but were not fighting him. As I approached, two of the guys turned around. One of them was the guy Paul had stepped on. They came at me with a look of glee in their eyes, like they were happy to beat the hell out of me. Why? I didn`t have any quarrel with either one. My mind was working feverishly, thinking what to do. I quickly realized that there was no way out of this bad situation. So, I firmly made up my mind that I would just give it “my best shot” Fists started flying all over and finally I started to lose my balance backwards; in a quick moment, I remembered seeing a fist fight in a television program that showed a man falling backwards and grabbing his opponent by the shirt collar to pull him down with him. That’s what I did and he landed on top of me, he was now straddling me and hitting me. His friend was standing alongside of us and was kicking me in any way he could. Meanwhile I have the guy by his shirt collar and I just kept punching him in the face, as hard as I could. He stopped hitting me to try to protect his face, but I was still being quite effective. My boxing experience was certainly a big help! I have no idea how long it lasted, but when I saw headlights come on the concrete pier, I was sure hoping it was the police and it was. As I sat up and saw all this blood on my shirt front, all the people just standing there, but no one wanted to help me. I looked over to see if Paul was ok. To my disgust, while I was sitting on this concrete pier with blood all over my shirt, I got up and just walked away to lean against a pole. It was only when the police got them all together that Paul was ready to fight them all. I had seen that routine before, it`s called cowardice. One cop came over to me and said what`s wrong with me. I said I`m disgusted, I came out here to help Paul and he doesn`t even get into the fight or try to help me, and he said, I certainly understand that. Later when I was sitting in the back seat of the car, I asked Janis where did all this blood was coming from. She checked me very thorough and said I wasn't bleeding anywhere. I guess my best shot really was the best. www.amazon.com Life goes out of style
