God gave me custody of the gift of art. Yet He never gave me full awareness of colour. I get my browns, reds, greens mixed up as well as blue and purple, pink and grey - forget about the variations of each of these. Be this as it may even though I lacked confidence with colour use in the early days it never stopped a couple of art teachers steering me towards art college. They instilled in me the confidence that I lacked and awarded me the art prize each year. I am forever indebted to Miss Richie in particular for her patience and encouragement. I was only sorry that I disappointed her when I left school earlier than she hoped to go work in agriculture instead of going on to college. I can still visualise her standing before me with her arms folded and the look of disappointment on her face. The other art teacher aside, she was the only teacher that I liked without reservation and looked forward to her class.
