More than 50 million American women have trouble between the Sheets. Up to 25% of women have orgasmic dysfunction, which is defined as the persistent or recurrent delay or absence of orgasm following a normal sexual excitement phase. A new natural procedure called the O-Shot (PRP) performed by certain practices nationwide has helped many women to improve their sex life and overcome orgasmic dysfunction.
The O-Shot is not a drug. It’s a procedure performed in a doctor’s office in which your own blood platelets are injected into vaginal tissue. The theory proposed by the inventor, Dr. Charles Runels is that platelets naturally attract your own stem cells to the injected area, and according to his website, “generate healthier and more functional tissue in the areas of sexual response in the vagina (G-Spot, O-Spot, Skene’s Glands, urethra, and vaginal wall).”
In addition, The O-Shot also promises to “improve or diminish” urinary incontinence. This is when you accidentally leak when laughing, coughing or exercising. It’s true that many of the same women who have difficulty achieving orgasm also have problems with involuntary loss of urine, since weak pelvic floor muscles can be responsible for both problems.
Tatiana Dell’Aquila is an expert in this field and also performs the O-Shot in her office and this is what she had to say about it.
Stacey Chillemi: Tell us about your practice.
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: We started our Metabolic/Functional medicine practice approximately 7 years ago with the hopes to introduce more natural methods for treating common complaints that were not being fully addressed by conventional medicine. Initially, we focused on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and weight loss but then evolved to treating toxicities, nutritional deficiencies, imbalance of neurotransmitters, Lyme disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, auto-immune illnesses, food sensitivities and most importantly, how to help our patients reach optimal health and sense of well-being.
Stacey Chillemi: What is the O-Shot (PRP-Platelet Rich Plasma procedure)?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: The O-Shot procedure was created by Dr. Charles Runels to help women who suffer from sexual dysfunction as well as urinary incontinence. The procedure uses platelet rich plasma from the patient's own blood and is injected into specific areas to obtain the desired outcome. Women who have undergone this procedure have experienced improvement and oftentimes, complete resolution of pain during intercourse, vaginal dryness, increased sensitivity for a more enjoyable sexual experience, especially for those who have problems or do not reach orgasm.
Stacey Chillemi: Why did you become interested in the O-Shot (PRP-Platelet Rich Plasma procedure)?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: There is a large population of women of all ages, who suffer from some form of sexual dysfunction and/or urinary incontinence. The O-Shot is a great method to help treat many of those problems using our body's own natural healing abilities.
We noticed that while were treating some patients with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy for complaints associated with menopause, urinary incontinence or sexual dysfunction, there were some instances in which those treatments were not enough to reverse the physical changes that had already occurred. The O-Shot can help regenerate healthy tissue with lasting results.
Stacey Chillemi: How can the O-Shot (PRP) improve a person’s life?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: If you can help women have more enjoyable and less painful sexual encounters, which can lead to better relationships with their partners. I have dealt with couples in which one person has no sexual problems and are afraid to have intercourse with their wife or girlfriend because of reported pain and discomfort. This can cause stress in a relationship to some degree even if the couple is in love with one another.
Women who suffer from urinary incontinence often tell of embarrassing moments when even a simple cough or a sneeze can cause an accident at work, at the gym, at home or any other public place. If we can help these embarrassing moments to occur, it can lead to more confidence and security.
Stacey Chillemi: What other treatments do you perform?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: In addition to our medically managed weight loss program, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, toxicity evaluations, nutritional deficiencies evaluation, food sensitivity testing, and neurotransmitter balancing, we are able to customize vitamin infusions to treat migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome, vitamin deficiencies after weight loss surgeries such as gastric bypass, lap band or sleeve as well as patients with absorption problems from Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis. We offer a protocol for Lyme as well as other viral and bacterial infections using colloidal silver hydrosol. Other PRP treatments include the P-Shot which is the male version of the O-Shot for men who suffer from erectile dysfunction as well as the Vampire Face Lift and Vampire facial to treat volume loss and aging process of the face and injections into the scalp for hair regrowth.
From a cosmetic aspect, we are also trained in injectable fillers and Botox to help minimize the signs of aging as well as laser treatments for hair reduction, skin rejuvenation, acne, small broken capillaries and skin tag removal.
Stacey Chillemi: Tatiana Dell’Aquila, you have excellent reputation in the medical field – in regard to the results you get in functional medicine and as a doctor who relates well with other moms, since you are a mother yourself. Are you satisfied with all that you’ve accomplished?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: I am very happy with what we have been able to accomplish in our practice thus far, but there is still much more that can be done. As it relates to sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence, I think that we need to put more emphasis in educating our patients about their conditions and offer them better methods for treating them. People often feel that conventional medical treatments and testing methods are the only ones available to cure their medical conditions but that is not always the case. I strongly feel that some of the therapies that we offer can complement or take the place of many "main stream medicine" treatments with less side effects and better outcomes.
Stacey Chillemi: Are you seeing more patients who are moms in your practice in regards to the O-Shot?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: There is a wide variety of women who come into our practice for the O-Shot but moms definitely benefit from its effects. Some of the main complaints we hear from moms relate to urinary incontinence, as well as negative vaginal changes that impact arousal and sensitivity as well as problems reaching an orgasm after pregnancy and childbirth, especially after a cesarean section. This becomes more of a problem if a woman has multiple pregnancies.
Stacey Chillemi: What about the sentiment expressed by those who think we should not interfere with the natural aging process? What are your thoughts on the subject?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: I think that we should all respect everyone's own personal opinions, but I don't believe that in our current society we have the opportunity to truly go through the natural aging process. We are exposed to so many contributing factors that accelerate our body's aging process such as our environment, stress, diet, exposure to toxins, chemicals and so much more. I feel that if there are more natural ways to help prevent major common problems related to aging such as dementia, osteoporosis, depression and heart disease (just to name a few), we should make educated decisions about using them. As for me, I want to live as long as possible and as healthy and independent as possible without the need for my family or the health care system to have to take care of me.
Stacey Chillemi: What benefits do you see in your patients who have undergone the O-Shot?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: We have patients who report resolution of their urinary incontinence and are not afraid to have "an accident" with a simple sneeze or cough or during exercise. They also have less feelings of urgency to go to the bathroom. Others who received the O-Shot for sexual issues report no more painful intercourse, little to no vaginal dryness and better lubrication during intercourse as well as stronger and more frequent orgasms.
Stacey Chillemi: Where can people go to learn more about your practice and the procedures and services you have to offer?
Tatiana Dell’Aquila: Our website is www.Spatologie.com and our office phone number is 973-447-4380 should they want a person to speak to about our practice and our services.
Bio:

Tatiana Dell‘Aquila, physician assistant, earned her undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2006 and her Master of Science in Physician Assistant in 2008 from Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey. Tatiana worked at a local Emergency Room soon after graduation and gained great experience and knowledge provided by her colleagues and mentors. As time lingered, Tatiana felt that something was missing, an important piece of her view of healthcare. She realized that after she treated her patients, she didn’t have contact with them and was unable to follow up with their progress after they were either discharged home or hospitalized. The inability to build a strong provider-patient relationship was a major contributor in her decision to join her husband’s medical practice in 2009 where some patients had been coming since her father-in law, Dr. Frank Dell‘Aquila, moved the practice to Nutley in 1973. Tatiana readily acclimated into the practice and has brought a woman’s touch to the health care approach which has helped balance the needs of our patients.
Tatiana Dell’Aquila is certified by the National Committee on Certification of Physician Assistants, she is a Member of New Jersey Society of Physician Assistants, Diplomat of American Academy Anti-Aging Health Practitioners and Member of Physicians for Latino Health. Along with her husband, she completed a Fellowship in Functional and Integrative Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and is enrolled in Metabolic and Functional Medicine Master’s Program offered through the University of South Florida Medical School.
