Hi! Ronee' here; I am going to write about a kid in my class at school. He is fairly new; and he is handicapped, too, like me, but his handicaps are not as noticeable as mine are; but they are just as bad, probably even more so. in fact, while my handicaps may appear to be bad (due to my being in chronic pain all the time or using crutches to walk, or, at times, a wheelchair), my disabilities are NOTHING compared to Brogan's! He is severely visually impaired; he was born without eyes. His eyes didn't form while he was in his mommy's tummy. But despite that, he is a good kid, and he is a friend to me.
My friend's name is Brogan O' Herlihy. He is my age (10), but he is older by nearly two months. Birthday's in October; October the 6th, to be exact. He turned 10 back then.
Brogan has red hair and freckles across his nose and cheeks; and he has a cute smile; but he has no eyes. He was born that way. He can't see; and he has to use a seeing-eye dog to get around. That, or a cane. He gets around quite well, and he manages very well despite not having eyes. (He has eyelids and eyebrows, but no eyes. He is blind, as you can imagine.) But he is a funny kid, and he is always telling jokes. He doesn't let his handicap bother him (something I should learn to do, especially when my JRA acts up!), and he is quite the class clown. He is always doing something to make the school day more interesting!
Brogan may be handicapped, but he is as smart as a whip! He can do calculous (or however it's spelled; it's a type of math that is very complicated!), and he is a computer whiz! Even without having eyes he can figure out things quicker than I ever can!! He also "reads" by listening to books on tape, or by Braille; he "reads" with his fingers; and the dots in his books are symbols for letters, punctuation, or numbers; and he "reads" the dots just like I read a book, excepting he uses his fingers. He is absolutely amazing!! And he can speak 5 languages..Gaelic (Irish), English, French, German, and Welsh! He is probably even smarter than ME!!
I am so glad he is my friend; I am lucky to have a friend in Brogan!
THis was a wondeful story Karen so full of hope. Brogan must be as smart as a whip to master calculus I can't make heads or tails out of it.
