Want a quality lifestyle? We are not getting any younger but with a little help, things could be better for us all.

Let's face it friends, it's not easy getting up in the senior years. Most of us need to watch our diet and exercise or our health problems increase exponentially. My weight has gone up and down and it’s a daily challenge fighting "the Battle of the Bulge" but it's worth the fight. The alternative is multiple doctor visits and pills and more pills. So I am putting off that possibility for as long as I can.

Keeping your sanity in a crazy world is another challenge. If it were not for Christ in my life I would have probably self-destruct a long time ago. The alternative high to Jesus is drugs and drinks. So many veterans have turned to this lifestyle. It's a cesspool that goes nowhere.

So we are free to make choices and that's a blessing in itself. The myth of living a retired lifestyle is also a mixed blessing. If you are not doing something productive in your life eventually you start thinking that your life on earth does not matter. That is why having some ministry work and part-time educational work it so invigorating. Interactive hobbies and sports are also essential to maintain a balanced and enriching life.

On top of it all is the family from the wife to the grandkids. Keeping in contact with the kids and having heathy relationships with as many children as  we can will also help your life feel more meaningful and blessed. By the way, the children do not have to be yours. I also help out once a month in a foster home for boys. I been doing it for ten years and love every minute! Kids are kids and they all need love!

God Bless you and your family!

Amen my dear friends!

It is inspiring to read an upbeat article such as yours on the topic of aging. The key is keeping oneself productive and fostering an optimistic outlook--the same things everyone should adhere to at any age.

An interesting article. They say retirement should be our golden years, but I sure have not found anything golden yet.I retired in 2003 from nursing. It was a big adjustment for my husband and I. We developed a routine and it was nice to do things together. Unfortunately health problems plagued both of us and we could not attain some of our goals. I am thankful for the time we did have together for a while. When he was alive, he always encouraged me in my writing and other things.Once he died,I had to adjust and learn to live with out him. It was extremely hard! Somehow with the help of God and my family, I have moved forward.I constantly challenge my self and strive to do the best I can! Writing has helped so much! As for the golden years, they remain elusive. Pills and more pills keep me going. Helping others and my family are an important part of my life. I love historical data and have worked on extensive family genealogy. I also enjoy writing children's stories and poetry. I am busy most of the time and days and months go by quickly. I recommend that people set goals, find something beautiful in each day and give thanks for all we have and are! It is easy to become depressed. Many of us are not getting any younger! We need to make each day count for something! I want to be remembered, not forgotten, once I have passed on. Writing helps to achieve that goal! Blessings to you....M

Your article is a clear encouragement for those facing challenges of aging. While I, just this morning, was addressing "the Battle of the Bulge, and contemplating some of the challenges I now face each morning that I didn't just a few short years ago. Still, in spite of not having half of those activities and relationships like "participating in sports and daily activity with family and children (my family is all over 1000 miles away, seem incapable of using Skype or FaceTime, even though I've asked them repeatedly, and I have no children. I rarely leave the house now because it is so difficult for my primary helper to have to prepare me to go and then prepare me to get back to work when I come home.

In spite of all this, you're right about the same productive. Currently I'm writing about two chapters a week on my latest novel. Life is good if you stay on the sunnyside of it.

This is a wonderful write, and I agree with all that you have said...ALL!!! At times I get very depressed, having seen my mother and father pass on, my two brothers, one sister, and four in-laws. It does indeed make a difference in one's life when so many family members pass on.

What a wonderful write! My family has always been and still is a very closely knit one. We are so busy being there for each other, enjoying activities with each other, and giving unconditional love to each other that we do seem able to squeeze in work and rest with God's help.

Love ya!

Jane
