Getting up now, I reluctantly headed towards the closest elevator going down, thinking to myself, eating at any hotel is always a risk, but tonight was Halloween. How could I go wrong?
On a crisp fall evening it was green and warm outside as I settled into my hotel room ready to relax. Each business trip creates a drain on my body and with the added heat of the day; you almost forget the eating process. Yet the signal comes from the brain indicating like a clear beacon, feed me, feed me. Not wanting to struggle with the San Diego freeway I chose to settle in for the night.
Getting up now, I reluctantly headed towards the closest elevator going down, thinking to myself, eating at any hotel is always a risk, but tonight was Halloween. How could I go wrong? When these massive elevator doors open at the lobby, I came face to face with a joker. Glaring in my face was his white and red make up. He was twisting back and forth in his black and white jump suit. Next to him was a gruesome witch, she had dark black eyes set back deep into to her head, matching her long extended nose. I knew that the image of the night was set.
"Could you guide me to your dinning room?"
A smile, a giggle, the joker pointed towards a narrow long hallway. While the witch rubbed her hands and smacked her lips.
I followed their direction and as I turned into an opening that had white spider webbing stretched throughout. Black bats, cats and spiders hung from the ceiling and curtains. Pumpkins and horror sounds of ghosts filled the room. A flashing blue light bounced through the room. For the most part the dinning area was baron, but it was early.
An Old Dutch woman came out of the dusk. "One or two?"
Looking back I was the only person in line. "One please."
"Follow me," could be heard in a deep hollow tone.
Sitting down in the darkened corner I began to loose my desire for food. Reading the menu anyway, when a bunny hopped up to my table, she was not of the playboy type. Her body was covered from head to foot, only her pleasant face was visible. Once I ordered all I saw was the large cotton tail as she disappeared into the darkness.
Relaxing became limited as a majorette pranced into view. The sparkling glitter ran up and down his tight white leotards. Those exposed legs marched in perfect unison, surpassing anyone I had ever seen in a parade. It was hard to tell if it was male or female. The long black hair covered most of the facial features.
Sitting high above the hair was a soldier's hat filled with multi colored feathers reaching for the ceiling. A baton was twisting and flying up in the air, while the other hand carried a try of food. Running next came two sailors that had blue stone washed pants covering their legs and a sailor hat fixed squarely on the top. Both passed out the food with grace and quickness. Recognizing the gender of this night was next to impossible. But the white shirts tucked in tight reflected what only a woman can exhibit.
The meal was great. Where could you have found such fun in the sun but at night? Reluctantly I walked back to my room wondering all the way. Where else in the world do men look like women and women look like men? With that the midnight hour past, sleep finally became restful. I had one lingering thought, where would I be next Halloween night? As I heard that witches laughter echoing deep in my mind.
Aside from some colorful descriptions of Halloween costumes, this is certainly no Hotel California and your story has no punch. There were also a number of wrong words; perhaps inserted by voice system for dictating stories like I do.
