Some ordeals exact a price we’re willing to pay--providing we can!
The repercussions from what commenced on May 11, 2016 should satisfactorily conclude on March 17, 2017. Some ordeals exact a price we’re willing to pay—providing we can!
What must have been a fault line along a bicuspid in my left upper jaw split further when I put the bite on a tuna club wedge on May 11th. Some dates prevail in infamy! I “felt” the explosion, but continued eating by chewing on the other side. It wasn’t until the following morning, on May 12th, that I realized something serious had developed due to the throbbing sensation and heat in the oral cabin!
On my way to the dentist, I envisioned Dr. S sending me off to an endodontist for a root canal. Thus far, I’d had three resulting from the symptoms I described. I can still vividly relive the psychological aftershock of discovering he had to extract the tooth because an x-ray showed it had split in half down to the root! How I wished the scenario was pulp fiction! Then, coming to grips with the gap and having to heal four months before my first consultation with an oral surgeon for an implant!
For one who is fastidious about dental hygiene and regards my set of choppers as so much more than a functional commodity, the situation was no laughing matter! In fact, I curbed the latitude of my smile in compensation for the flaw in my pearly white enamel accessories.
All the while, I’m cognizant of the fact that my situation doesn’t amount to a hill of beans when it comes to medical procedures. In retrospect, what I’m about to undergo is actually a luxury many in our country cannot afford. This is what I really see when I notice folks who have several teeth missing. That, in itself, is no laughing matter!
The process of undergoing a dental implant takes place in stages due to the time allotment required for soft tissue to heal and waiting for growth of new bone in your jaw. Bottom line—out of pocket costs, $2000! Rather than grumble, I’m grateful I can pay the piper.
After the abutment was placed in January, and my gums healed over the span of two weeks, I scheduled a dental appointment for fabricating a crown! In contrast to the psychological trauma I experienced in May, I am elated during this February visit! I leave the office paying $435 and expect to pay a tad less on March 17th for my crowning glory!

I recall losing a tooth way back when I was about 21. My mother's dentist pulled it out for $15 rather than fix it because he figured I could afford to fix it as a student. Really POed me! Didn't go to a dentist for 27 years--my mistake. But I only had one root canal from a beautiful Colombian dentist while I watched Gladiator. Didn't feel a thing.
Strangely, I just discussed with my partner that I was going to pay for her implants that are coming up soon a few minutes ago. You've got some very good insurance.
