Let us step out into the American wilderness. Here we are no longer a part of our civilization. In fact most of us don't recognize or realize that it exists. Participating in it becomes a real cultural shock, because it made adaptability a task that should continue without anger.

Strange how different civilizations can live and yet not feel a part of that society. Cultural complexity can be defined as the advanced stages of art and social political achievement. We have taken for granted what our own culture had considered suitable. What then constitutes acceptance? This basic but complicated question has many answers.
Let us step out into the American wilderness. Here we are no longer a part of our civilization. In fact most of us don't recognize or realize that it exists. Participating in it becomes a real cultural shock, because it made adaptability a task that should continue without anger.
The Saranac Lake region will give you that very essence by comparing how far we have advanced and yet we are nowhere. Here rural life is still practiced within our modern culture. This helped to support their survival, but it also depleted the very core of this wilderness.
Nature requires freedom and that becomes highlighted throughout all parts of this Adirondack country. Traveling for miles in any direction, only forests, lakes and cool rivers run within the shadows of their past.
Biking, hiking, boating, canoeing, signify what is considered as the common wilderness activity. These are practiced daily. Blended into this fine fabric of life are those that many consider tourists. These people have expectations when coming to this region, because they consider it is theirs.
Life continues between the rural mountain ranges and hidden lakes. All this was once considered life of old and should have passed, but it is still active today.
All the roads look paved and updated and very little could be seen of the local inhabitants. What looked like a homestead on the surface was actually life away from the mainstream. A town might not even have a gas station. Meeting any traffic coming or going happens purely by chance. Logging trucks and campers travel these roads more frequently than tourists.
The locals mostly appear past their prime. They are perceived over the hill and don't add any benefit to the community. Most of the houses range back to the 40’s and 50’s. The characteristics of wind, rain and snow wear on the local structures. Nature’s creation is greatly tied into the fiber of this area. The service industry is limited, but even that does not overwhelm the area. It will never outpace the expectation of this region.
It is not even a farm land concept, but more characteristic of frontier life. The people look the same and are very friendly. This leaves you with a question, who is happier? They have accepted a limited amount of tourist attractions, but they appear out of sight. Examples of deterioration are their prized possessions. Most struggled all their lives to call this home, stepping back and reflecting where we come from and what we have. Does this allow us to be critical of what we find?
A cultural experience housed nearly a hundred people. It was a live theater production. Again the prominent representation here was the local senior group. The stage play was exceptional because it reached out with one common thought.
Strange how time removed what was once inside our very soul? We search for some sign that would make us different. Accomplishment and success become measured by others, because everyone perceives their own goal. This is true only if it compliments what society feels is right.
Survival becomes the ultimate driver and yet the people here survive. They might dream of a better life, maybe something parallel to where these tourists call home. The mix makes up many different nations. This location turns into a true oasis of the mountains.
Human nature seeks what exists unconstrained and desirable for their own needs. Simple acts like walking down the local streets did very little to make you part of their community. The locals learned to accept it, because at that instant of time you are a part of their community and lifestyle your dress, your attitude become fascinating to them. You become living examples for their children and grandchildren by showing them what their future will be like.
A dream that you have forgotten, or can no longer recognize endures. Society has its own manifestation, though it never was a part of their goal or ambition. There are very few bargains here. Everything remains limited and that embraces what their standard has become. Visitors cannot perceive what or how these people would ever recognize and what would satisfy their needs. The most that they can ever offer is a service, which becomes routine for them. Something likes what you would expect.
Finally after a week, you became accustomed to this type of rough environment. Then you leave, taking a part of this limited wilderness. The ringing question is, will you ever wander back into this culture? More than likely the answer is clear. What a shame!
The rivers can become dammed, but not restrained. It maneuvers downstream until there is no stream. The tress will grow until there is no room. Wild animals continue to expand in what is considered their home and they will survive this cultural complexity until the last.
