Chapter 2
Woman On The Beach

"Hey, Freddy! He's going to that beach!" Steve looked at me as if to ask for my permission, remembering what Old Grandpa Jack has just said.

"Alright! Let's find out once and for all what kind of goddess he's talking about!"

Steve and I had decided to follow Mike.

"He is heading towards that Jackson Point's beach I think," I told Steve. It seemed the only logical place a man – drunk or not - could reach on foot. " I know where it is - I rent a house just up the street."

Mike led us passed the hotel, and then came to a children's playground and picnic area. He sat on the picnic bench for a while, and then he began walking again. I don't know why he was walking the way he was, as though he was not drunk. As we approached the beach, Mike ran towards it.

"Angeline! I am coming!" he cried out loudly. "Angeline! Here I am! So sorry I've left you waiting for so long!! Don't worry, I am back here now!" Funny, he spoke coherently now. Not a trace of his usual booze-induced slur.

By now Mike was running towards the beach. He's got this crazed look on his face. His stared widely, fixated on the lake. Steve and I hurried over and kept close to him.

"Angeline! Angeline! It's me, Michael! I am here now! I have come back for you!"

Mike ran down to the beach, stood in front of the water and called out loudly into the ocean.

"Please come to me, Angeline! Please come to me!"

"He's going nuts! We better get him before he drowns himself," Steve said, looking across the darkness of the ocean.

There was nothing but blackness. Not a soul in sight.

But just as we were about to get Mike, something...unexplainable – something out of this world happened – a ghostly shape was taking form, rising out of the ocean!

Huge gigantic waves – some that were as tall as 7 feet to 10 feet high – began to form. Waves not unlike the kind one would see thrashing their way to shore on an angry, stormy ocean. They were headed straight for us! Before we could even spin around on our heels and sprint to safety, the ghostly specter took the full form: it was a giant white fish – launching itself into the frigid night air!

"Look! There's something over there!" Steve shrieked in horror.

I looked again at the freak of a wave. A giant fish – it must have been 7, 10 feet high as she was wide - was catapulting itself into the air! It came down with a resonating thwack as it hit the blacked water, sending a disproportionately sized circle of castoff water jet streaming into the air and onto our shivering old bodies. If only I had my camera! Wait…what is this I hear?

Singing. Somewhere in the vast blackness of night, someone was singing...

Michael, Michael, come to me,
I am the maiden of the sea.

I've swum across the ocean,
And I've swum across the sea.

'Til I've found you, Michael,
Then we'll be as happy as can be.

Michael, Michael, where can you be?
I have found you,
But they took you away from me.

Michael, Michael, where can you be?
Michael, Michael, please come back to me."

What in the world? Quickly, I scanned the darkness for any sight of Mike. I could barely make out that he was standing on top of a piece of big rock, still as a statue, waiting! His eyes were fixated on the big white fish. He appeared to be in a trans-state of mind, hypnotized by it.

The waves had not waned – a 10-foot tsunami was headed right for him!

"Mike, Mike, come back!" We called out to him, but our voices were drowned by the thunderous crash of the waves crashing to shore.

We tried in vain to go swim over to Mike, the waves kept throwing us back. The water came at our faces, we were blinded by the force. We tried to steady ourselves, grabbing at rocks, seaweeds, branches – anything this side of the shore to get close to Mike, but we simply couldn't. The weight of the waves kept launching us back onto dry land. So how is it that Mike just stood there on that piece of rock, with the waves coming at him? It was like he was glued to that rock!

The big fish was coming closer and closer to Mike now when it swam close to the rock beneath his feet, it leaped up about 50 feet into the air and swirled around.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. This had to be a dream! There Mike stood, in a hypnotic trance, watching – willing – the creature before him into a dizzying spin. As it curled around itself, the fish began to take on a new form: its two fins, stretching out like...like...arms! Yes!...I think they are arms...no wait a second...I think they're fins!...No, actually, now...they are arms!...They look like human arms!

It’s head…it’s fish-head is now transforming into a human's head!!!

As it spun round and around, hair began to sprout out of its head - bright beautiful shiny silvery hair!!!

The…figure…began to slow in its own cyclone. It was now complete with its stunning transformation. I rubbed my eyes hard, not believing what I had just witnessed. I even slapped myself across the face a few times, trying to wake myself up. Only this wasn’t a dream. I was sure of it. There, in front of Mike, and before my own eyes – stood, on water, the form of a woman! A goddess! A beautiful goddess dressed in a transparent white chiffon gown! I could see her naked body underneath her dress. It looked like it was carved out from a piece of stone by a world-class sculptor.

"Is it a mermaid?" I turned to ask Steve. His jaw was slack, his eyes wide, dumbfounded at the vision before him.

"No, I don't think so," he said. "It has legs. I mean she has legs."

I turned back to look at the beautiful woman. Her skin was flawless in the moonlight. She had porcelain complexion, Her lips were full, inviting. Her dark, oval-shaped romantic eyes gazed at Mike lovingly. She was totally out of this world!!! There she was! Just standing there, glowing in the moonlight!

She held out her arms to Mike, who instantly emerged from his trance. They held each other for a moment and then embraced in a passionate kiss. Mike was touching her hair, her face. He lifted her face up and I could see her eyes. They were dark, but there was a mysterious invitation of love in them. When I looked at her eyes, I could feel love and desire runs through me. I could feel the desire to hold her too and to have her. My knees became weak, and I was beginning to sink in as well...until Steve poked me with his elbow.

"Damn! Why does he have to poke me?" I scolded Steve in my head.

"Ouch! That hurts!" I looked at Steve disgustingly. He had just broken all my loving thoughts.

"What do you think? Should we just leave him alone for now, or should we go over to rescue him?" Steve asked.

"Rescue! What do you mean? He's having fun there. Just leave him alone for a while at least. Even a crazy person deserves some private moments, you know?" Steve made me mad at the most inappropriate moment and I need to scold him. How could he be so ignorant?

I looked over at Mike and the "woman" again. They were embracing each other now. Sure! Mike was having a good time! No wonder he wanted to come to this beach so badly. Who would reject a Goddess like that?

Mike was kissing her now, on her face, her lips, her neck, he cupped his hand on her breasts. Under the dimness of the moonlight, I could see her naked body underneath that transparent white gown. I looked into her dark eyes, they were filled with passion and desire. Mike and his Goddess were now holding each other tight, lying on that piece of big rock and making love to each other. I suddenly had an urge to going over there too to join in the fun. I've never felt so isolated and deserted!

"Why? Why does it have to be Mike that she desires? Why not me? Mike is the crazy one, and I am not! Please, maiden of the sea!! Will you please love me too? My name is Freddy, I am Freddy Fidamon," I secretly called out to the woman.

I knelt down on the ground. All of a sudden I was weak and tired. I saw Steve beside me; he was just sitting there staring into space. He looked dazed. I wonder what he could be thinking.

I sat down and took in a deep breath to steady myself. I could feel the desire of love course through my body. Please maiden of the sea, take me, please! My name is Freddy Fidamon! I also want to be loved! I struggled and ran toward her and Mike. I tore off my shirt! I had sex on my mind, fire in my loins...I...

FANTASTIC story-telling! Is she a myth? or is she something that the men had hallucinated? Whatever it was, the storm was real, which swept through the shore. I hope they're all going to be alright.

Great beginning two chapters of the story, Sandie! I can't wait to read more. Of course, the main character of the story is more excitable because he is a 24-year-old young guy, and his friend is 30.

I like how you described what a young guy would feel while witnessing someone else is having sex. LOL!!! Great job, Sandie!

It's okay to be uncertain at this point whether this is a hallucination or not. The fact that the goddess sings a song is intriguing--it suggests she is a siren, trying to lure Michael to his doom. Just a guess.

Dear Mr. Negativity Ronald Hull:

Thank you for pointing out my error about the "lake" to which I greatly appreciate it. It has been corrected since.

You didn't get excited because you were not reading erotica. If I had written this as an erotic story, I would have written the love scene in more graphics detail, and you'll be jumping out of your wheelchair. LOL!!!!

This story is still in progress. This is not a dream. This story is about science fiction and fantasy genre. There will be dreams later on in the story. It will happen later, not just yet. If you've read this, you would have noted that Freddy DID slap himself several times just to make sure he was not in a dream.

I DO NOT think the "piece of rock" is overstated, but thank you for your opinion! It is much appreciated!

It's good to see you writing again. Unfortunately, I found this story not to be as exciting as you seem to portray it to be. I'm not sure if Freddy is having a dream or not, but that seems to be the most likely thing happening. A giant fish suggests a hallucination. That fish turning into a beautiful woman, is even more preposterous. Except in a recent award-winning movie, The Shape of Water.

You describe "a piece of a rock" several times. I think it would be better just to say a rock… A large rock at that. Also, while it appears that things are happening at the ocean (sea) at one point you referred to it as a lake.
