You never knew if she carressed you

or if it was her carressing grasp

her way of beguiling you

insisting that you like it

that you agree to it

despite your common sense

caution

to flee.

Part of you was fascinated

part a bit afraid

partly wanting to resist

this forwardness in her

her confidence

in assuming that

I would agree.

Her breath on mine

the two mingled

too warm

too close

yet I needed

to experience it

feel what came next

in our little story

of defining

whether my 

risng fear

would swell 

into existence

or would be be waylaid

by my own need to grasp

her

to see if I could shake

her being;

perhaps to her core

and I decided upon
the latter,

guiding her hand

to my shoulder

to see if it would

follow

holding her

close

to see if she

would be shy

or be bold.

She felt stronger

than I realized

more substantial

larger than I had guessed

and I did not guide her

to me

rather than glided

to her

and she hesitated

because my hands
moved slowly

around her waist.

A waist it was
and light

as if she anticipated

my move

my guidance

to where

the moon awaited.

Her hand

in mine;

we moved

side by side

through couples

around us

beckoned

by the waiting moon.

I could smell the lilacs

the jasmine too

and we both 

took in the perfume
breathing deeply.
