This quote from my late N'Awlins 'Yat Mommy brings me back to my childhood … around my age of 10.
On that New Year's Eve Day, I had used my Christmas Santa stocking money to go to the nearby K & B on St. Charles Ave. and Broadway to buy my first cassette player in 1969!
Well, not being a geek even back then, I had trouble figuring out how to record on the cassette player, till I finally figured out on New Year's Day how to push the Play and Record buttons simultaneously, at which my Dear Mother made that famous quote on New Year's Day afternoon … as we were watching bowl games … and hearing the roars of cheering fans at the nearby Tulane Stadium hosting the Sugar Bowl with Arkansas and Georgia!
Mom got so tired and aggravated at me for constantly pushing the rewind button to replay that quote, which she made with an infamous 'Yat twang to it, that she hid it from me later that day!
I'm lost looking for the quote. There are two places before "Yat" that look like they might be quotes, but I can't tell…?
You reminded me of telling my caregiver the other day about the recording my sister made of my younger twin brothers singing, "I want to hold your hand," when they were four about 1963 when the Beatles made the song famous. A few years ago, she sent me a cassette copy of it that I have somewhere. I have purposely kept my old battery-operated cassette player so that I can listen to that tape and others of some of my presentations I made in the 1970s.
When I get time, perhaps I can put that recording and some old pictures to go with it here for everyone to get a kick out of like I do.
