Chapter Sixteen

There is another component of the Coordinating Committee and that is the creation of the Outreach Committee.
This group may or may not be composed of members of the family group per se but their role is:

Outreach to the Community on issues of urgency to the community. They knock on doors and canvas neighbors seeing what neighbors want done in their neighborhoods. What issues do the neighbors want solved, from garbage pick up, to the crater potholes that never get fixed, to city hall wanting a cement factory in the neighborhood, to crime.

These are daily living issues and this group will often meet in local churches, in homes, in schools and other places. The charge is to find out what people need fixing in their neighborhoods and then take those issues to other family groupings and ultimately to city hall. Often they will, in strengthen, run people for City Hall Councilor, for school board, and with the Canvass Committee, raise money for what is needed in those campaigns.

2. The Canvass Committee's charge is to raise money for the various issues identified by the Outreach committee, often going door to door. But their goal is not only to raise money, pass out fliers so that neighbors realize that a Family Fund is organized and try to help them if they also want to organize one for their family, and to offer support to them in their efforts.

3. The Volunteer Committee as it name implies will seek to recruit volunteers in the community for both the family project and for other issues neighborhoods want brought to the attention of city hall or want tackle these problems for themselves.

Volunteers from local groups, from Corporations, from businesses are brought together around specific projects, agree upon a plan of action and them move to moving to action.

Often these volunteers can be identified by asking local companies to mention the Family Fund in company news letters, or ask companies to serve on your Board of Directors.

Training for specific projects and the responsibilities of volunteers would be organized for this purpose.

A “Volunteer Job Description” at some point will have to be created and disseminated to all prospective volunteers. There are samples of these “Volunteers Job Descriptions” available on the internet.
