Weeding out self-doubt...
In 2017, I wrote “A Way with Weeds,” a viewpoint based on my view espied through the dining room window overlooking a vast meadow. Formerly a heavily-wooded area destroyed by backhoes and bulldozers, I rejoiced when developers abandoned their massive construction project. To my delight, the passage of time enabled Mother Nature to replenish every square inch of acreage with weeds. Rabbits and deer reclaimed their natural habitat.

Much to my dismay, the field artillery returned several weeks ago and excavated a widespread depression in the ground. Whether this is part of a master plan or one-pit wonder, remains to be seen. For now, whenever I look out that same window, I see a shallow pond.

Today, for the first time, I discovered ducks swimming around. Before long, I witnessed the alignment: all eight ducks in a row!

Of a different mindset, I might have dismissed this occurrence. Now, on a different plane for interpreting phenomena, I choose to ponder the significance of my observation. As a spirit animal, ducks remind us to set intellect aside and trust our intuition, weeding out self-doubt.

It is, truly, amazing how nature heals itself and it does so, relatively, quickly. Thank you for reminding me of my experiences with this. Love your stories, Eva.

The developers have invaded all green places. Sorry to hear your woodsy woods were taken down and now the field is at risk. Much the same is happening in my neck of the woods here in NJ. Go to your city council and push for trees to be planted in the development. It's the least they can do. Have no self-doubts, we can fight for trees and green places.

Funny how things can turn out so differently than what we fear or dread. I'm so happy you have a pond with ducks to share your home—at least a view of them. As I sat on a bench by a lake last evening and watched ducks and a beaver? swim by, I marveled at nature's creative energy. Infused my spirit with new strength. Thanks for sharing.

and I so agree with your assertion, being brought up in Oklahoma (more years ago than I will mention) coupled with having native heritage from three different nations..i believe in spirit animals, and much of natures wisdom. my best friend of many years (a full blood Chickasaw who married the same) just passed this year and I will be there in june with his family for his memorial.
thank you for this write and your ending.

That certainly is wonderful! But I hope it isn't like those black bellied whistling ducks whose two clutches of ducklings invaded by backyard one summer, just before the wild right-of-way that survived 30 years behind my house, became a parking lot.

I hope that that pond becomes a permanent fixture for wildlife like the ducks and deer to have a drink.
