True colors--see how they run!
Ever since I stepped up my role as caregiver, something’s gotta give! I gave up doing my own laundry at the facility in my apartment building. With four washers and dryers to accommodate residents in 54 units, my decision was a no-brainer.

So, every Monday over the past four years, various drivers employed by a local laundromat, faithfully picked up my hefty bag of dirty laundry from the threshold outside my apartment. Just as faithfully, on Wednesday, the driver dropped off the bag containing clean, sorted and folded items, ready to put away.

Rain, sleet, or snow!

Throughout this honeymoon stretch, I’ve been spared the hassle of folding a fitted bed sheet. Nor must I contend with slackers on the home front who don’t take the initiative of discarding their lint from dryer filters as a common courtesy.

Barring the occasional divorced sock, or coming across a hitchhiker, life was grand! Up until now!

During a two-week period, I’ve had to discard a pair of light pink jeggings on account of Rorschach splotches rubbed off from its companion in the guise of purple jeans. My breaking point occurred after I had to toss a white tee top embellished with unsightly blue spots.

Setting my dirty laundry aside, an utterance of “Out damned spot!” had no impact on disfigurements permanently tattooed in the fabric of my garments.

Having emailed the manager each time, to no avail, showed me her true colors. See how they run! In my case—purple and blue! Feeling as though I’d been taken to the cleaners, I discontinued service.

Not one to fold, I’ve lined up another company, making a laundry list of preferences beforehand: cold-water wash and rinse; color-safe bleach for whites.

Here’s hoping for no clothes calls predisposing me to fall apart at the seams.

I feel your pain. I hate doing laundry or cooking or any housework. But now that my husband has been doing the laundry to help me, I enjoy when he loses a sock. After thirty years of hearing him say that there's no reason to lose a sock, I can watch him grumble and search. I don't need much for amusement.

Very funny! I like the puns too. You could go retro and do some tie-dying, no?

It seems like a luxury to have a laundry service. That I have one now. I have two caregivers that seem to be washing clothes all the time, whether they're needed or not.

During my apartment staying days, I seemed always to find a time when the machines were free. But you are right about hitchhikers. I rarely lost anything but certainly gained. As soon as I got my first house with a washer and dryer as part of the deal, I did my own clothes and never had any problems. Folding was not a priority. I just hung up my shirts, buttoned, and my pants on hangers from the dryer and let the wrinkles come out… No fold lines… Who wants fold lines on their underwear? Not me!

My ex was so fastidious that she labeled her ex-husband's socks with green thread for right socks and red thread for left sock. I not kidding!

Love the puns! Yes, I struggle with the twilight-zone also known as laundry issues too. With my 8 kids, certain things always go awry. Like socks! What's the deal? I'm fairly certain that aliens are messing with my mind and selling sock puppets on the side. Who knew...
