Memories of Willard Scott, NBC Today Show Weatherman intertwined with my Gerontological Emphasis in Social Work, an Elder Walk, being follically challenged and Toupees.

My favorite “Humor Promoting Weatherman” has always been Willard Scott, formerly with the NBC Today Show. It was fun to note whether Willard would wear his toupee or not, as he had to have one of the best tops I've ever seen, and he would randomly use it or not!
I have lost track of Willard, but I recall back in the early 90s when I worked at St. Tammany Parish Hospital (STPH) and he helped me to promote an Elder Walk health promotional event.
Before commuting to STPH back then from N'Awlins, I would love watching the NBS Morning News Show with Bryant Gumble, Jane Pauley and Willard Scott; the latter, a Weatherman, would daily announce recognition to Centenarians from around the country.
So I decided to mail Willard Scott a T-Shirt that we had made for our STPH Elder Walk, not really thinking he would use it. Well lo and behold, on the day before our event, Willard gleefully held out our T-Shirt and gave us a great plug!
The weather turned out wonderful that day for our promenade, and a great time was had by all. I still have that VHS copy of the taped Willard Scott promotion of our STPH Elder Walk from back then!
Since Willard is now in his own seasoned age – like a smiling Advocate writer (Smiley Anders) I know, I'm sure he's still follically challenged like me … shucks, that's the real reason I love Fedoras – to hide the receding lines (lol)!
I haven't yet gotten a touppe like a famous local WBRZ Channel 2 Weatherman reportedly has (“'To[u]p[ee]' of the morning to you, Pat Shingleton!”)!
That was really nice of Willard to do that for you. It seems that weathermen all seem to be characters. Perhaps it is a trait required to go into the television weather business. The closest I ever got to weathermen (there were no weatherwomen in those days) was in my Masters degree statistics class at U of Wisconsin. The class was filled with future meteorologists. We had a very bad textbook and teacher. One reason why everybody thought statistics was hard except me.
My hairline has receded a bit, but my partner loves to use the electric clipper to, "bald," me.
