Fun experiences with amusement park rides ... money falling and reinvested for a church ....
About 14 years ago when we used to go and have fun with our son, JP, at the annual St. George Catholic Church Fair in October, we had a "Finders' Keepers, Losers' Weepers" Experience.
As JP and I were in a long line for one of those Topsy-turvy rides, we kept hearing and seeing coins cascading down to the grass, as riders were treated to their upside-down fun!
We tried to get their attention as they disembarked, but to no avail.
So after our ride, we went to collect our treasures and immediately passed the blessings onto the coffers of St. George by taking extra rides, as well as celebrating with some N'Awlins (New Orleans) style snowballs to boot!
Very observant. You actually saw money coming from people's pockets from that ride! That was a very good gesture, trying to catch the people so that they could retrieve their money. And even better, so that you could return it to the Parish by spending it on more rides. As I grew up a non-Catholic, I was amazed at the ways that Catholics raised money. They held some very tasty fish fries on Friday evenings that we often partook in. When I was in high school, I set pins in the bowling alley that was in the basement of St. Joseph's church school.
My story is a bit different. My twin brother and I were walking with our father one day in the midst of a carnival crowd when Dad stopped walking and just stood there. We puzzled why he was doing that, especially when some teenage meaning looking kids were hovering around. Dad just stood there and stared back at them. Finally, they backed off and disappeared in the crowd. Dad moved his foot and reached down to pick up a five dollar bill on the ground. I then knew why those kids were hanging around. Dad spotted the five dollar bill just as they did and put his foot on it so that they couldn't get it.
