Fun playing chess with a grandson, sharing lessons in addition methods ....

A few months ago when our grandson, John, was visiting us for Thanksgiving, we were enjoying playing one of his favorite pastimes, chess – which he usually wins without grandpa helping in any way, which I hate to admit!
In between a few moves, I was completing a mundane budgeting function in completing my monthly bank statement when John overheard “Gramps” say to himself the following, after I added my bi-weekly info into my checkbook:
“ ...8 + 7, = 15, ya carry your '1'" … which perked up John - who was more accustomed to “New Math – so he turned his eyes and attention from the chess board, as he was just about to put grandpa into checkmate
“What do you mean, Gramps, 'you carry your 1?'” Do you think you will carry your first chess win finally?
